Job Description: The Firefighter Reserve Program is established as a pool of competent, well-trained personnel to supplement Fire Department personnel levels at times of extreme emergency. All Firefighter Reserve applicants must submit a completed Application for Employment. Firefighter Reserve positions are voluntary, unpaid positions. Firefighter Reserve applicants must meet the following criteria: Is a citizen of the United States Possesses a high school diploma or acceptable equivalent Possesses a valid, Kansas Driver s License Passes the written exam and physical agility tests Is at least eighteen (18) years of age Upon meeting eligibility requirements and satisfactory completion of oral interviews and background checks, candidates will enter the Arkansas City Fire Department Academy, which is a 12-16 week intense, firefighter training program. Applications for employment for reserve firefighter volunteer positions will be accepted on a continual basis.
