Job Description:
This is a public contact, customer
service, maintenance, grounds, and custodial service position. Employees in
this position are responsible for setting up equipment, stalls, lighting,
microphones, concessions, furnishings, and related equipment and activities
that are involved in the smooth running of a county fairground. They also
perform building, equipment, and grounds maintenance and custodial duties to
keep the fairgrounds properly cleaned and maintained. These employees must perform
their duties efficiently and safely. They should have the ability to provide
courteous customer service to fairgrounds customers and the general public.
This position reports directly to and is under the general supervision of the
Fairgrounds Director
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS
1. Complete all event tasks in accordance with your
essential function task list.
2. Complete all maintenance tasks in accordance with
your essential function task list.
3. Complete all custodial tasks in accordance with
your essential function task list.
4. Complete all grounds work in accordance with your
essential function task list.
5. Fabricate, repair and replace plumbing and
electrical fixtures.
6. Repair and replace broken equipment and parts on
buildings and machinery.
7. Safely and properly operate tractors, mowers and
other motorized equipment as assigned to complete fairgrounds maintenance work.
8. Assist with stage, stalls, panels, chutes, audio
and visual equipment, furnishings, and trash receptacles and other event equipment
during event set up and tear down.
9. Respond to changes enthusiastically while
completing other assigned tasks.
10. Accurately compile and maintain inventory of
chairs, tables and equipment prior to an event and immediately following the
event. All inventories are to be completed and turned in to the Fairgrounds
Director at the end of each day.
11. Quality of the work performed should be
consistently above the standards established by the essential functions task
list for your assigned areas.
12. The quantity of work performed should
consistently exceed the productivity standards established by the essential
functions task list for your assigned areas
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE
AND SKILLS
1. Familiar with custodial cleaning and floor
maintenance procedures.
2. Skilled in building, equipment, and grounds
maintenance procedures.
3. Skilled in plumbing and electrical fabrication
and repair procedures.
4. Familiar with tractor and motorized equipment
maintenance procedures.
5. Familiar with animal chutes, stalls, barricades,
hydrants and troughs.
6. Able to use hand and
power tools safely.
7. Some welding and acetylene torch cutting is
helpful but not required.
EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum of one year’s experience in building and
grounds maintenance.
2. Minimum of one year’s experience in serving and
satisfying your customer’s expectations by providing an exceptional level of
customer service.
MENTAL
AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES
1. Must be able to follow written instructions on
custodial chemical labels and equipment service manuals.
2. Employee must be physically capable of continuous
strenuous physical exertion throughout an 8-hour shift.
3. Must be able to repeatedly lift items 50-70lbs
and occasionally lift items 80-100lbs. Employee will work with others lifting
heavier items.
4. Ability to safely operate and maintain vehicles
and machinery.
5. Must be able to perform repetitive and fast paced
physical work.
6. Must be able to stoop, bend,
balance on one foot, climb ladders repeatedly, manipulate small parts, and
follow written instructions.
7. Must have sufficient visual
acuity to determine wire colors and bolt sizes.
8. Must hear well enough to
accept and follow verbal instructions over a radio.
9. Must be available for on call duty, emergency
call ins, and occasional rotating shift assignments.
EDUCATION
AND TRAINING
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid Kansas driver license.
3. Valid CDL.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. This position involves work
in a wide variety of conditions and temperatures. This employee is routinely
exposed to a wide array of odors, fumes, dust, dirt, mud, animal excrement and
large and small farm and rodeo animals.
2. While performing plumbing
and electrical repairs the employee may be exposed to fumes, waste water,
electrical hazards and rotating equipment and must be able to work safely in
adverse situations.
