ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
|
|
1) 70%
|
Responsible for management
and administration of engineering projects.
|
|
|
·
Monitor project design and
construction to assure compliance with approved schedules.
·
Assist with plan review to assure
compliance with accepted engineering practices and adopted city standards.
-
Prepare permit applications,
correspondence, and reports related to city projects with federal, state,
county, and other agencies and the general public.
·
Prepare and maintain proper records,
reports, and documents related to design and construction of engineering
projects.
·
Proactively interact with the public
regarding engineering projects.
·
Attend public meetings and give
technical presentations when needed.
·
Review inspection reports and make
recommendations on payment requests.

2) 30%
|
Responsible for assisting
with operations of the Planning & Engineering Department.
|
|
|
·
Assist with construction inspection
for engineering projects.
·
Provide assistance with building
inspection as necessary.
·
Respond to requests for service from
the public, outside agencies, and other city departments.
·
Review site plans, drainage plans,
and other engineering-related items associated with planning approvals.
|
(Continually
looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions. Other tasks as assigned will be performed to address
business needs.)

REQUIREMENTS:
|
|

project development, scheduling, and strategic planning is expected. Negotiation, persuasion, tact, and
diplomacy are essential for effectively performing tasks.

well-informed public.

Latitude: Most duties are self-determined, planned,
and arranged by performer. Problem
solving requires advanced technical knowledge. Most decisions not affecting other
departments may be made independently based on city policy and sound
engineering principles.

|
Interaction: Daily interaction with employees throughout
the organization, the general public, contractors and other governmental
agencies.
|
|
Education:
·
Bachelor of Science in Civil
Engineering, required.
|
|
Experience:
·
Civil engineering or municipal
construction experience, preferred.
|
|
Skills:
·
Knowledge of engineering principles
and practices in the design and construction of municipal projects.
·
Knowledge of civil engineering as
applied to the methods and practices essential to design and construction of
municipal improvements including stormwater systems, water and sanitary sewer
lines, sidewalks, streets, and water and wastewater operational facilities.
·
Ability to develop long-term plans
and programs.
·
Ability to prepare and organize technical
reports, estimates, and construction and cost records.
·
Ability to access, input, process,
and retrieve information from the computer.
·
Ability to meet and deal tactfully
with the general public and communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing.

Certification/License:
·
Valid Kansas driver’s license and a good driving
record, required.
·
Valid Kansas Engineer Intern Certificate
or Professional Engineer’s License required within twelve months of
employment.
|
|
Work
Environment: Occasional (25%)
exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous situations. Seldom (10%) carrying and lifting of 30
pounds. Occasional bending, squatting,
and twisting. Frequent use of manual
dexterity and visualization of a computer screen throughout the day. Occasional evening City Council and Planning
Commission meetings.
