Job
Objectives:
Work
as part of a team providing crisis intervention and pre-admission assessments
to meet the needs of members of the community who are in crisis. This includes
performing clinical assessments for individuals who present as a danger to self
or others. In addition, completion of
intake, follow-up and outreach appointments, as well as answering crisis
telephone lines as needed is required. Pre-admission assessments will entail
screening for the state hospital, Medicaid and Nursing Home admissions.
Essential
Job Functions:
Provide
brief crisis intervention therapy to address the immediate mental health needs
of client.
Complete
screens for hospital placement.
Conduct
mental health assessments in the community with the mobile crisis unit (MCU) to
determine a client s immediate mental health needs.
Assist
with phone interventions on mental health and suicide prevention hotline as
needed.
Documentation
on all in-office and MCU client contact is to be accurate and completed within
agency and program standards.
Screening
forms are to be accurate and completed within the timeframe established by
program.
Some
holiday work is required and expected.
Ability
to cope with psychotic episodes of adults.
Knowledge
of community services and benefit programs.
Ability
to develop and maintain rapport with patients, the general public and all
levels of staff.
Ability
to keep client documentation current.
Must
possess the awareness and judgment to intervene appropriately when dealing with
escalating emotional situations.
Possess
the ability to negotiate several flights of stairs at a time and move
effectively in varied settings throughout the community.
Possess
the mobility and judgment to execute personal protective measures.
Able
to calmly and effectively deal with agitated individuals or high risk
situations.
Demonstrate
autonomous critical thinking skills.
Demonstrate
good professional judgment and decision-making skills.
Self-motivated.
Able
to work with minimal direct supervision.
Demonstrate
good time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
Able
to handle competing urgent priorities.
Possess
basic or intermediate computer skills: able to learn complex software related
to an electronic medical record.
Able
to work multiple shifts.
Must
have a valid Kansas Driver's license, current proof of automobile insurance and
be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Job
Standards:
Masters
degree from an accredited college or university in mental health professional
field.
Licensed
as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) in the State of Kansas.
Two
years experience in Social Work or any equivalent combination of training which
provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with
substance use assessment and intervention preferred.
Ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, the
general public and all levels of staff.
Ability
to apply social work techniques and methods to interpersonal problems, family
problems, educational and vocational problems and problems created by
impairment in physical health.
Knowledge
of the DSM-IV, manifestations of specific mental diseases and maladjustments,
and of public health services.
