Sedgwick County, Kansas – Health Department Director

 

Every day is different.  High energy is required to work in this dynamic organization that makes a difference in people’s lives daily.  Sedgwick County is located in south-central Kansas and has a metropolitan statistical area population of 600,000.  The County is the second largest county in the state in area, with 1,009 square miles, and the eleventh highest per capita wealth among Kansas counties.  Sedgwick County is part of the metropolitan Wichita area, which is the state's largest city and the county seat, and is consistently being ranked as one of the nation's top places to live.  Sedgwick County has a commission/manager form of government, employs 3,064 persons, and hosts or provides a full range of municipal services.  The County is seeking a Health Department Director to support and advise the County Manager, the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners, and others as needed.  The Health Department Director reports to the Director of Health & Human Services, supervises approximately 145 full-time staff, and manages a budget of approximately $12.6 million.  As a senior management position, the Director is responsible for providing the vision and direction for the Health Department’s functions and services, ensuring implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, and leading the management team in review of quality improvement initiatives.  Additional responsibilities include monitoring staff/program performance to assure financial stability and program integrity; overseeing the development and control of the budget, administrative procedures and resolution of complex personnel situations; collaborating with community partners and advisory boards; and representing the community’s public health needs to the Board of County Commissioners, State health agencies, State legislators, and national organizations.  Requirements include a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Business, Health or Public Administration, or a closely related field; a Registered Nurse, Certified Health Educator, Doctorate in Public Health or a related field is preferred.  Candidates should have at least 10 years of progressively responsible senior management experience in public health administration, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.  The salary midpoint is $92,327.  The starting salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience.  The County offers an excellent benefits package.  First review of applications will take place on July 21, 2014; position is open until filled.  To apply, visit our website at www.bobmurrayassoc.com and follow the prompt online by creating an applicant profile.  A detailed brochure is available.  Questions regarding this recruitment should be directed to Ms. Renee Narloch, Senior Vice President, at [email protected] or call 850-391-0000.  Sedgwick County Government is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment and services to all individuals.
