Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Water and Wastewater Superintendent, the Wastewater Plant Supervisor performs technical and supervisory work as chief operator in directing and participating in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Employee is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and reviewing the work of semi-skilled and skilled operating personnel. This position will be subject to after hour call-outs.

Employee must be able to operate a BNR facility and all equipment associated with treatment. Employee must have knowledge of sludge applications and 503 regulations. Regular contact with state and federal agencies does exist within this position.

Experience: Five years of wastewater plant treatment is mandatory with lead or supervisory experience preferred.  Must have a Class IV Certification in wastewater or be able to obtain one within one year of employment.  Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after one year in the position. Must possess a CDL with tanker and airbrake endorsement, or the ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Education: High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental field preferred or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Residency Requirement: Must live within 20 miles of the intersection of First and Main streets, Newton, Kansas.

Successful candidate must pass a background check, physical and drug screen upon conditional offer of employment.
