History
Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) has been delivering excellence in education since 1965. WATC continues to build on this tradition with quality instructors, talented students and state-of-the-art technical equipment. Together, these elements help create a hands-on learning environment that promotes participation and prepares students for career experiences.
Mission
As an institution of higher learning, the mission of Wichita Area Technical College is to provide quality higher education and leadership in workforce training that supports economic development for a global economy.
Governance and Structure
Kansas Board of Regents
The Kansas Board of regents (KBOR), a nine-member body, governs six state universities and supervises and coordinates 19 community colleges, six technical colleges, four technical schools and a municipal university. The governor appoints KBOR members who the Kansas Senate then confirms. KBOR primarily deals with educational policies, programs, services, providers and others systems in an effort to improve and maintain the high quality of education in Kansas. KBOR also coordinates vital programs such as the Adult Education program, the Qualified Admissions curriculum for high school students, financial assistance for education and many others. KBOR approves technical programs offered by WATC.
Governing Board
The Sedgwick County Technical Education and Training Authority (SCTETA) is the governing board for WATC. This 11-member board consists of executives, who represent the aircraft industry, financial services, health care, skilled trades, and city and county entities.
