Job Title: Journeyman Lineman
Salary: $25.50 Hourly
OVERVIEW: Perform construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution system.
JOB DUTIES: • Safely construct and maintain overhead and underground distribution circuits, both energized and de-energized, with minimal supervision or direction. • Safely operate all associated equipment required in construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems with minimal supervision or direction. • Safely operate all specialized equipment required, i.e. regulators, substation reclosers etc. in the operation of an overhead and underground distribution system, with minimal supervision or direction. • Have working knowledge of basic computer skills such as Windows and Microsoft Office. • Participate in safety training. • Participate in standby program. • Be available for after hour work. • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. • Maintain a current Kansas driver’s license and an insurable driving record. • Certified lineman. • Can clearly and concisely express ideas both orally and in writing to maintain effective working relationships with peers, other City department heads, appointed board members, and elected public officials. • Ability to perform all tasks with a high level of professional conduct.
Desired Qualifications: • Two (2) or more years of certified lineman experience. • Possess or obtain a valid Kansas Class A CDL.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work involves performing routine related tasks that may require special knowledge or instruction. It also may involve special skills applied to the safe and efficient operation of equipment. The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertions such as frequent climbing, lifting of objects weighing in excess of 74 pounds, moving in areas of difficult or dangerous access and defending oneself or others against physical attack or harm. The work environment involves extremely high risks with exposure to potentially life threatening (traffic, biological, chemical, fire, gun fire) situations or unusual environmental risk which require a full range of safety and other precautions, but in some cases, these precautions cannot prevent injury, illness, or possibly death.
