Job Description:

Jefferson County is accepting applications to fill a new "GIS Emergency Services Technician" position. This is a full-time, 40hrs per week position with some required on-call time. This person will operate under direction of the GIS/IT Director and the Emergency Management Director. This position will require significant duties relating to GIS support for Emergency Services and other departments.  Other duties may include responsibility for updating and revising emergency response plans for the county; respond to emergencies and coordinates emergency response efforts of participating agencies and other duties as required.

Salary will depend on experience, but may range from $32,000 - $38,000 annually

Job Requirements

  • Pass a background check, physical, eye, hearing and drug test
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Prepares special or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries, selecting relevant information from a variety of sources;
• Compiles and prepares complex statistical reports from various information sources;
• Composes special correspondence requiring research to adequately cover the relevant issue;
• Researches information in files, mapping systems and computer databases and provides a summary of findings as requested;
• May assist with coordination of volunteers before, during and after an emergency;
• Assists with the operation of the Emergency Operations Center when activated including, but not limited to, resource management and coordination of emergency response agencies during disasters and emergency situations;
• May operate communication equipment such as two-way radio and / or dispatch systems.
• Tracks and maintains information required for grants;
• Assists with maintaining and updating all county emergency operations plans and public health preparedness plans, including maps and GIS Databases;
• Assists with exercises, communications, planned events, incidents, emergencies, disasters and deployment; works in all weather conditions in an outside work environment;
• Maintains large database for resources and all emergency contact information;
• GIS data acquisition and data maintenance for Emergency Management, PSAP (911 Dispatch);
• Map creation and updates for Emergency Management, PSAP;
• Database access and extraction from PSAP database (911 Dispatch Global database);
• Responsible for preparation and implementation of NG911 data layers into PSAP database systems and State NG911 Database. This includes but is not limited to the following.
o Authoritative Boundary (county boundary or city boundaries)
o Emergency Services Boundary
o Emergency Services Zone Boundaries
o Road Centerlines
o Address Points
o Road Alias Table

• Responsible for PSAP GIS data layers which are not currently NG911 required;
• Analysis of GIS and other data;
• Ability to respond outside of normal business hours as requested, typically during times of emergency;
• Ability to work with large format scanners and plotters;
• Other duties as assigned.
