Job Description:

Usual working days/hours: 8am to 5pm; M-F

Location of work: Primarily 525 N. Main, however will be at multiple County facilities.

Job Objectives:
The Sedgwick County Management Intern Program offers a one year opportunity to explore public administrative career fields, gain valuable insight into local government, and procure future leadership positions. This experience has proven to be an excellent training ground for higher level administrative and managerial positions at all levels of government.

Essential Job Functions:
The management intern position involves research and analytical work on an entry-level professional basis using various research methods. Interns study administrative systems, policies and practices. They are given in-depth experience with all facets of County government including, but not limited to: Public finance, public health, public safety, public works, human resources, and other County functions. Interns are given work assignments involving meaningful participation in a wide variety of problems facing the Sedgwick County metropolitan area. Interns attend County Commission meetings, other management level meetings, and public events. This experience has proven to be an excellent training ground for higher level administrative and managerial positions at all levels of government. The Management Intern is part of the ICMA Local Government Management Fellowship (LGMF) program.

Job Standards:
Applicant should be a recent master's level graduate or nearly complete in graduate level course work. Master of Public Administration or Master of Business Administration preferred. Graduate level transcript required. Short (no longer than 3 pages) writing sample required. Must be written within last 4 months. Transcripts and writing samples must be sent to the Manager's Office, 525 N. Main, Suite 343, Wichita, KS 67203.

Standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer, printer, scanner, copier, fax, shredder, multiline telephone.

Work Environment:
Primarily office, but may include occasional outdoor assignments with exposure to weather.
