Job Description:

Usual working days/hours: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Location of work: West River Plaza | 2622 W. Central, Suite 500, Wichita, KS

Job Objectives:
Interview and conduct assessments for individuals and families considering entry into and continuation in the HUD Section 8 Housing program.

Essential Job Functions:
§ Make appointments and conduct initial and recertification interviews. Verify income and various documents to determine eligibility under HUD guidelines and amount of subsidy. § Perform Housing checks: Perform Housing Quality Standards Inspections according to HUD guidelines; and visit tenants for initial and recertification interviews, and inspections. § Answer telephone calls in a professional, courteous and empathetic manner, controlling the tone and outcome of each call. Communicate and explain to individuals in person or over the phone their resource options. § Prepare and processes contracts and lease addendum's. § Provide quality assurance checks of lease contracts to ensure compliance with Kansas Landlord/Tenant Act guidelines and HUD regulations. § Audits and approves landlord and utility payments. § Produce documentation and other reports as requested by required deadlines. § Demonstrate the ability to work with various populations and provide quality customer service. § Review income and expenses accurately to determine eligibility.

Job Standards:
Education & Experience

• Bachelor s degree in a Human Services field from an accredited college or university.  • Minimum of three to four (3-4) year of progressive experience in administrative work, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies.  • Minimum of one (1) year of case management experience or coordination of services for consumers.  • Bilingual preferred.  • This position requires driving. Valid Kansas Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance is required. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle, and meet Driver Qualification standards as set forth in Sedgwick County's Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage policy.  • Pass Sedgwick County and Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) background checks.


• Individuals applying must have strong interviewing skills. • Knowledge of the HUD Section 8 program with knowledge in the Kansas Landlord/Tenant Act guidelines and HUD regulations. • Knowledge of problem solving and conflict resolution principles, including active listening, and interviewing. • Individuals applying must have strong communication, interview skills and knowledge of assessment processes. • Knowledge of community resources, services and benefits available to individuals considering housing assistance. • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collect and convey accurate information face to face, by telephone or by email. • Demonstrate strong customer service skills working with people of a different race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation; manage difficult or emotional customer situations; and respond promptly to customer needs. • Ability to provide accurate assessments within a timely period. • Ability to operate basic office machines, such as personal computer, fax, copy machine and phone.

Testing/Screening Requested:
• Background checks including but not limited to KBI & DCF child and adult abuse registry. • Pre-employment urine drug screen. • If considered for employment, candidate must complete and pass these tests: Typing (35 WPM)

• Standard office equipment and computer software.

Work Environment:
Work is performed 30% in field in all weather conditions. Will have exposure to wide variety of environmental conditions. Frequent travel to consumers’ homes and prospective rental units for inspections is required covering Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey Counties.
