The hours are: Monday-Thursday: 8:00AM-5:00PM (Must arrive by 4:30PM to Test), Friday: 9:00AM-5:00PM (Must arrive by 4:30PM to Test)
Usual working days/hours: M-F 8AM-5PM

Assists with difficult, skilled clerical and administrative tasks in voter registration and election activities. Work involves a high level of mental concentration and interaction with the public and various agencies both in person and via telephone. Provides assistance directly to the public in regards to all aspects of Election Office operations. Ensures that each situation is handled according to Federal and State Statutes, Administrative Regulations, and County policies. Accurate data entry is of vital importance. This position is seasonal, may work up to 1,000 hours per year, and will vary with the election calendar.
Essential Job Functions:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Responsible for various data entry processes in the state-wide voter registration database system: conducts various searches utilizing multiple parameters and accurately inputs required data. Scans images of voter registration materials for archival purposes. Assists with checking petitions to qualify candidates. Serves as an officer of election in the central absentee precinct and instructs in the use of the voting machine as needed. Assists in the preparation of election mailings. Serves as a back-up receptionist; greets visitors, receives and dispenses information by telephone, letter, or by direct contact with the public; explains departmental policies, program requirements and legal requirements. Assists the public in providing information and explanations of necessary procedures; responds to specific customer questions requiring additional research; appropriately routes inquiries for more complex matters and interpretation issues to supervisor(s) or manager(s). Answer telephones in accordance with standards of proper telephone etiquette. Receives and processes Election Office mail according to established procedures. Prints and mails voter registration cards, applications for advance mail ballots, and other correspondence as necessary. Assures data accuracy in maintaining state-wide voter registration database. Prepares, verifies and submits data to state-wide voter registration database to keep master files current and in order. Responsible for various data processes in the state-wide voter registration database system: conducts various searches utilizing multiple parameters; scans and maintains records management; generates correspondence through data entry processes; and processes information received through cooperative agency interface modules. Assists eligible applicants in the registration process. Assists with packing election supplies. Assists with set-up and testing of election equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by courses in data processing and one year of experience in data processing related work; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license issued by the State of Kansas. Must be free of Federal or State felony conviction as well as any misdemeanors relating to breach of trust, fraud, embezzlement, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and COMPETENCIES Capable of performing all the major duties and responsibilities in a professional, competent, accurate and dependable manner. Knowledge of computer hardware operation and software applications as they pertain to election functions. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word and Excel. Ability to type 40 WPM. Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and efficiently. Ability to concentrate on a high level. The individual in this position must possess above average computer skills and above average accuracy in data entry. The incorrect data input could affect the outcome of elections and/or disenfranchise someone’s right to vote. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, County officials, and the general public. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Courtesy, tact and ability to remain neutral are essential elements of the job. All personal opinions involving any Election matter are to remain unspoken. Strict Confidentiality required especially as it applies to election results and voter’s private information LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers and the general public. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
