Work as part of a team providing crisis intervention and hospital pre-admission assessments to meet the needs of members of the community who are in crisis. This includes performing clinical assessments for individuals who present as a danger to self or others. In addition, completion of intake, follow-up, and outreach appointments, as well as answering crisis telephone lines as needed is required. Pre-admission assessments entail screening for the state hospital and Nursing Home admissions. Finally, this position will also provide mobile therapy in the community when requested and support suicide prevention efforts in the community while upholding the mission and vision of COMCARE of Sedgwick County.
Essential Job Functions:
• Complete screens for state hospital and nursing home.
• Complete intake assessments for admission to COMCARE services.
• Provide brief focused therapy to address the immediate mental health needs of clients who present as currently dangerous.
• Conduct mental health assessments in the community with the mobile crisis unit (MCU) to determine a client s immediate mental health needs.
• Provide assessment and brief focused therapy services to COMCARE Assessment Program for Seniors (CAPS) clients.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Complete all progress notes within agency/program standards.
• Documentation meets minimum Medicaid standards for content and quality.
• Completes Notes for Record to ensure the completeness of the medical record.
• Completes call logs to ensure important information is available to other providers.
• Screening forms are to be accurate and completed within the timeframe established for the particular screen.
• Monitor treatment plans and update within the required timeframe.
General Administrative Duties
• Review and respond to Utilization Review feedback forms.
• Attend regularly scheduled therapists meetings.
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Participate in continuing education and in-service presentations to develop and enhance skills to meet the needs of clients.
• Maintain licensure with the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB).
• Meet with supervisor for monthly updates and supervision.
• Spent time coordinating and assisting with a special program or project at CIS which enhances or aids in the delivery of services to mental health consumers.
• Project assignment is negotiated between supervisor and employee, and may include but not be limited to our competency evaluations, stress trauma assistance team, crisis assessment program for seniors, mobile crisis unit assessments, community presentations, supervision of students or other staff or the collection and dissemination of data collected from local agencies.
• Must be an individual who meets the criteria for an approved mental health service provider (QMHP) or licensable by 7/1/17
• Individuals with a clinical license are encouraged to apply.
• Possess demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to work with persons with severe and persistent mental illness, and the ability to react effectively in a wide variety of human service situations.
• Experience working in a Community Mental Health Center and/or a crisis intervention program is desired.
• Meet the specifications as outlined in the CMHC licensing standards and pass KBI, DCF child abuse check, adult abuse registry and motor vehicle screens.
• Must complete orientations provided by Sedgwick County and COMCARE.
• Ability to cope with psychotic episodes of adults and children.
• Knowledge of community services and benefit programs.
• Ability to develop and maintain rapport with patients, the general public and all levels of staff.
• Ability to keep client documentation current.
• Must possess the awareness and judgment to intervene appropriately when dealing with escalating emotional situations.
• Possess the ability to negotiate several flights of stairs at a time and move effectively in varied settings throughout the community.
• Possess the mobility and judgment to execute personal protective measures.
• Able to calmly and effectively deal with agitated individuals or high risk situations.
• Demonstrate autonomous critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrate good professional judgment and decision-making skills.
• Able to work with minimal direct supervision.
• Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to handle competing urgent priorities.
• Possess basic or intermediate computer skills: able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record.
• Able to work multiple shifts.
• Must have a valid Kansas Driver s license, current proof of automobile insurance and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
• Drive personal vehicle and/or occasionally drive a county owned vehicle for business purposes (ex. Transport clients to appointments), as required; documenting and reporting mileage according to agency procedures, so that services can be provided in a timely manner; comply with agency vehicle policy at all times.

• Candidates must have basic computer or intermediate skills in word processing and email software, must be able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record.
• Frequently sits at desk and operates computer.
