Usual working days/hours:
Mon-Fri and after adjustment will fall into an on call rotation
Location of work:
Based out of the County's Juvenile Detention Facility
Performs various maintenance duties to efficiently operate this County facility and keeping it in proper repair and clean and safe for public use
Essential Job Functions:
This will be a driving position as the employee will be required to drive to various facilities. Performs preventative maintenance on air conditioning and heating units; checks and tests heating and air conditioning equipment. Performs plumbing work; repairs leaking faucets and pipes; unstops and repairs toilets; unstops drains; installs plumbing ducts, pipes, and fixtures. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems in fans, motors, compressors, pumps, air handling units, appliances, etc,; installs special power sources, lighting systems, and multivoltage switches; replaces electrical motors, elements, fuses, bulbs, and thermostats; operates volt/ohm meter, conduit cutters and benders, wire strippers, soldering gun, power hacksaw, and specialized connectors and fasteners. Replaces light bulbs and tubes; installs ballasts in lights; repairs fixtures. Performs miscellaneous carpentry work in repairing County buildings and furniture; interprets user requirements; uses provided plans or designs and draws plans; determines material list; measures, cuts, and assembles materials; finishes project with appropriate paint stain, varnish, or wood sealer; operates power saw, electric drills, screw guns, nail guns, and other hand tools. Performs other duties as required such as lock repair/maintenance, grounds keeping and snow removal, painting, and other related work as required
High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years general maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid State of KS Driver s License, and meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage Policy.

This position requires the use of various tools and equipment invloved in the maintenance field from small hand tools to table saws, torches, welders,larger equipment such as snow plows.
This positions environment varies from building to building and could require work in office settings, to roof tops, and out door work as well as work in the maintenance shop, outdoors in all weather conditions, and exposed to the weather elements. Chemicals and odors will vary from paints to paint thinners, gasoline, oils, solvents,cleaning agents, etc...
