Position Title:     Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Facility Operations Manager, the Maintenance Technician completes performance of building maintenance tasks in carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing.  Completes minor maintenance repairs as directed by supervisor.

Franklin County participates in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS & KP&F).

Additional Information:   

High School Diploma or GED required.  2-3 years related experience and/or training is required.  A valid driver’s license is required.

Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.

Assembles, installs, or repairs basic wiring, electrical or electronic components, basic pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.

Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

Ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with all employees, officials, and the public and to communicate effectively verbally or in writing is required.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Facility Operations Manager, the Maintenance Technician completes performance of building maintenance tasks in carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing.  Completes minor maintenance repairs as directed by supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices;
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate;
  • Inspects, operates, or tests machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions;
  • Assembles, installs, or repairs basic wiring, electrical or electronic components, basic pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment;
  • Inspects drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists;
  • Cleans or lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery;
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment;
  • Records type and cost of maintenance or repair work;
  • Cleans or prepares sites to eliminate possible hazards when performing duties;
  • Operates vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters and pruning saws;
  • Mows or edges grounds, and cut weeds using power mowers or edgers;
  • Cares for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, walls and trails, removing brush and trees;
  • Uses hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers and axes;
  • Prunes or trims trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws;
  • Mixes, sprays, or spreads fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees using hand or automatic sprayers, or spreaders;
  • Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features including removal, treating facilities with salt or ice melt;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Performs custodian duties as needed in all county buildings.

 

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

  • None.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possess valid driver’s license.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
  • or two to three years related experience and/or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university;
  • or four to five years related experience and/or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.
