To maintain and repair Sedgwick County heavy and construction equipment. Must have experience in agriculture and rotary mower maintenance and repair. Perform maintenance and diagnostic checks to ensure vehicles operate under the conditions which they are designed to be used.
Essential Job Functions:
Must have experience in rotary mower maintenance and repairs. Repairs and maintains heavy equipment, construction equipment and their associated systems such as electrical, hydraulic, compression and water pumps. Performs complete overhaul and mechanical work on County equipment; automobile, light and heavy trucks, graders, bulldozers, tractors, mowers and other standard and specialized equipment; performs preventative maintenance and diagnostic work on vehicles. Repairs and overhauls transmissions, differentials, front and rear end assemblies. Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts, valves, pistons, brakes, main bearing assemblies, cooling, ignition, and fuel systems. Repairs and overhauls motors, generators, clutches replaces brakes axles and springs. Repairs and overhauls air compressors, hydraulic systems, heating and air conditioning. Repairs and rebuilds transmissions, differentials, front and rear end assemblies, salt/sand spreaders, snow equipment, engines, hydraulic pumps and motors. Operates miscellaneous shop equipment including but limited to: metal lathe, welder, torches, diagnostic equipment, computers, gauges, battery testers, electrical systems and HVAC systems
Two years experience as a mechanic or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies. High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be ASE Automotive Certified. Must be able to provide own tools.

Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environment conditions such as dirt, dust, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards and toxic/poisonous agents. Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds. Requires the ability to stand for long periods of time.
