Police Officer

The City of Clearwater, KS is accepting applications for position of Police Officer.  The qualified applicant will be a hardworking, team oriented individual who possesses excellent communication, organizational and public relation skills.  This position is responsible for enforcing all federal, state and local laws while serving and protecting the citizens of Clearwater.


Qualified individuals will possess a high school diploma or GED with a preference given to those with a degree in criminal justice or a closely related field.  Certification through the state of Kansas is preferred and is mandatory within the first year of employment.

The successful candidate must be able to efficiently operate firearms, computers, office equipment and other law enforcement equipment.  He or she must be able to read and interpret manuals, legal documents, reports and written instructions.  Frequent independent decision making is a factor in this position.

Applicants must be a United States citizen and at least 21 years of age.  The applicant must be able to pass and maintain all physical activities and requirements of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center as well as pass a physical exam.  The qualified applicant must also pass a psychological exam prior to starting employment. A passing written exam with at least a 70% passing score may be administered.

Essential Functions:

 This position will be directly responsible for patrolling the city and safeguard life and property, investigating suspicious conditions and complaints, directing traffic and issuing citations for traffic violations, investigating crime scenes and collecting evidence, making arrests for law and ordinance violations, testifying in court, responding to citizen concerns and complaints and completing written reports.

This position may also be responsible for providing additional security at special events, assisting other law enforcement agencies when needed, assisting other city departments or agencies as needed and performing other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
