CLASS TITLE: GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) MAPPING ANALYST
PAY GRADE: $16.61 TO $24.56
ACCOUNTABLE TO: GIS SUPERVISOR
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general guidance of the GIS supervisor, performs work researching, coordinating, developing and implementing GIS (geographical information systems) applications for the City. Examples including land use planning, spatial analyses, mapping, installations and database design and preservation.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ARE: Produces and maintains various types of digital maps and data bases; performs spatial analyses of geographic data; performs conversion of existing maps to GIS; develops customized applications and GIS spatial products to increase productivity, generate reports, improve maps and support business processes; incorporate as-built information into GIS; develops and implements ESRI data models (primarily sewer, water and gas); ARCGIS Server web mapping; GPS data collection.
OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE: Work will vary as the City makes technological advancements. Teach City employees to utilize GIS technology in their daily jobs. Use AutoCad to create and modify as-built plans and draw/update electric assembly plans. Maintain data dictionaries for GIS data.
SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Normally none.
EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE CRITERIA AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of spatial analysis principles and practices. Should possess the ability to program in multiple software packages (Visual Basic and JAVA).
Effectively and accurately enters and performs assigned work;
Prepares and maintains records and reports accurately and to acceptable standards;
Exercises and maintains skills in use of office equipment and computers;
Mathematics, note reductions, and similar procedures are accurate;
Provides accurate and appropriate information to contractors, property owners, and the public;
Ability to perform moderate to light physical work and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, crawl, push, pull and perform similar body movements;
Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate survey instruments, office keyboards and a vehicle;
Ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and two-way radio; ability to see and read instructions, plats, specifications, legal descriptions, images on a computer screen and through survey instruments;
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, contractors, and the public.
