Job Title: Firefighter
Serve as working firefighter; activities include assisting in protection of life and property, training, inspections, public education, medicals, and hazardous conditions. The firefighter will be responsible for performing station duties and assist administration as necessary.
1) Responsible for the protection of life and property.
Respond to fire, medical, and other emergencies.
2) Responsible for participating in training.
3) Responsible for inspections.
4) Responsible for participating in public education activities.
5) Responsible for maintenance and repair.
Perform daily routine cleaning and maintenance of all fire apparatus and equipment.
Perform daily housekeeping and maintenance tasks at fire station.
High School diploma or GED, completion of Firefighter I, HAZMAT Operations, C-PAT and EMT certification required when hired, and Valid Kansas driver’s license with a good driving record required (Class B Non-commercial License required within 1 year).
This position requires the ability and knowledge to work independently, work well with others, operate firefighting vehicles and equipment, operate office equipment, perform in a team environment on a daily basis, meet and deal tactfully with the general public, communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing. The ability to withstand heavy physical activity, control emotions and actions, respond quickly and logically during stressful situations, and knowledge of methods, principles, and practices of modern firefighting operation and techniques. Post Offer Employment Testing required (POET).
Department personnel including assistant chiefs, captains and lieutenants, fire fighters and administrative personnel; also Elected Officials, City Managers and other City personnel; general public.
Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous situations, carrying, lifting, moving, or pushing of 50 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Plus, exposure to human blood and body fluids, heavy machinery, excessive noise, hazardous chemicals, explosives, radiation, confined areas, and heights.
This schedule consists of 2 rotating shifts with each shift working 12 hours on an X & O Schedule; without regards to weekends, holidays, etc.
Residency required within 6 months of hire date.
$15.50-$16.75 per hour. DOE
