Job Objectives:

Operates ADA accessible vehicles designed to transport passengers within Reno County.  Provides limited physical assistance as needed to passengers to, from and while on the bus.  Driver will work a flexible schedule on Fixed Route and Para transit buses within the city of Hutchinson and South Hutchinson and Specialized Transportation service passenger vans within Reno County.  Reno County Area Transportation (RCAT) is first come first served General Public Transportation.  Driver will transport passengers of all ages including the elderly and disabled.

Essential Job Functions:

Obeys all traffic laws while driving vehicle, drives vehicle defensively, consistently maintains assigned time schedule and communicates using a two-way radio.  Receives assignments and direction from dispatch.  Follows department procedure for transporting wheelchair passengers.  Responsible for reconciliation of fare receipts, maintains passenger log and provides assistance to paratransit passengers.  Assists paratransit passengers with packages per department policy and procedure.  Inspects vehicle as required by department policy and procedure.  Maintains adequate fluid levels, maintains vehicle in a clean and safe manner and is responsible for washing and cleaning vehicle.  Maintains daily records as required in department policy and procedures and reports accidents or incidents immediately using appropriate procedure and paperwork.  Advises Safety Maintenance Coordinator when vehicle needs repairs or non-scheduled maintenance.  Confers with dispatch if a passenger is perceived to be unsafe to transport (i.e. sick, injured, intoxicated).

Job Standards:

High School diploma or G.E.D.  Experience driving or transporting passengers may be considered as a substitute for diploma/GED requirement.  Previous experience driving professionally desired.  Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class C with passenger endorsement.  Must possess a Department of Transportation Medical Certificate or obtain one upon employment.

Testing/Screening Requested:

Must pass a pre-employment Physical Capacity Profile and Drug Screen.

Equipment:

Must be able to operate all job related machinery, equipment, tools and other aids as required, necessary or needed in the performance of these job functions.

Work Environment:

Majority of work is performed inside a Reno County vehicle.  May be exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by the weather.  Noise levels at times may be high.  Moderate to high exposure to fumes and dust.  Due to the proximity of the general public, work may include exposure to diseases and/or illnesses.
