Job Objectives:

Varied clerical and office work involving operation of Solid Waste Management Department’s scale house.  Employee performs under supervision of the Office Manager.  Work involves performing computer tasks, clerical work and visual inspections.  Work is reviewed by immediate supervisor through observation of results obtained.  Position requires public contact and confidentiality.

Essential Job Functions:

Weigh trucks over computerized scale.  Distinguish between commercial and small individual loads and direct each load to appropriate disposal area.  Contact a Solid Waste Supervisor for any questions about load’s acceptability.  Log waste disposal locations into the computer (municipal solid waste, special waste and construction and demolition).  Check special waste permits and contact the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) pit by radio for disposal instructions.  Print load tickets and distribute copy to the driver if needed and file original with the Secretary II.  Maintain random inspection load records weekly and determine load counts and keep operating records as required by the Office Manager and according to state and federal regulations.  Receive household hazardous waste being brought to the site.  Contact a Solid Waste Supervisor for any question about acceptability.  Keep a log sheet of individuals brining in Household Hazardous Waste.

Job Standards:

High school diploma or G.E.D., two (2) years of office experience that includes computer, word processing, office machines and accounting work.  Household Hazardous Waste training as required or necessary.  Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Testing/Screening Requested:

Must pass a pre-employment Physical Capacity Profile and Drug Screen.

Equipment:

Operate all job related machinery, equipment, tools and other aids as required, necessary or needed in the performance of these job functions.

Work Environment:

95% indoors and 5% outdoors.  Conditions may be congested and distractingly noisy at times, area is dusty and may handle household hazardous waste.
