Job Objectives:
Provide clinical and administrative supervision for a team of mental health case managers delivering psychiatric rehabilitation services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of a team of eight to ten case managers who provide community based psychiatric rehabilitation treatment within recovery oriented services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Provide clinical consultation to staff.
  • Monitor staff performance in documentation and service provision according to established standards, provide routine individual and group supervision; write and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Conduct preliminary assessments in community and detention settings for clients referred for the SCOAP program
  • Conduct intake assessments, first appointments and provide crisis/risk assessment to adults with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) as requested.
  • Work in collaboration with the criminal justice, inpatient psychiatric, and adult mental health systems.
  • Provide limited case management services for SPMI adults as needed in the absence of an assigned case manager.
  • Participate in program planning, development and implementation of new initiatives.
  • Participate in the hiring process and train new staff.
  • Provide clinical support to staff and clients in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) as needed.


Job Standards:

  • Must be an individual who meets the criteria for a qualified mental health practitioner(QMHP),licensed in Kansas by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board at the master's level or higher, or able to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire.
  • Possess demonstrated interpersonal and written skills; ability to work with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and the ability to react effectively in a wide variety of human service situations.
  • Preference given to applicants with training and experience in mental illness and recovery-oriented practice for people with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Preference given to applicants with previous experience or educational background in the criminal justice system.
  • Must complete basic case manager training and case management supervisory training within first 6 months of employment, may require overnight stay.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ability to cope with psychotic episodes of adults.
  • Knowledge of community services and benefit programs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain rapport with patients, the general public and all levels of staff.
  • Ability to keep client documentation current.
  • Possess the awareness and judgment to intervene appropriately when dealing with escalating emotional situations
  • Possess the ability to negotiate several flights of stairs at a time and move effectively in varied settings throughout the community
  • Possess the mobility and judgment to execute personal protective measures
  • Able to calmly and effectively deal with agitated individuals or high risk situations
  • Demonstrate autonomous critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrate good professional judgment and decision-making skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work with minimal direct supervision
  • Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to handle competing urgent priorities
  • Possess basic or intermediate computer skills: able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record


Testing/Screening Requested:

Background checks: KBI, DCF child abuse check, adult abuse registry, Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility security clearance and motor vehicle screening in addition to a pre-employment drug screen.


Equipment:

Candidates must have basic or intermediate computer skills in word processing and email software, must be able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record. Supervisors are required to carry a cell phone.

Work Environment:
Primary environment is an office setting and routine community, detention, or home visits with clients or other agencies.
