This is a senior-level network infrastructure engineering position for an individual ready to influence the direction of IT at Sedgwick County. This individual must have a strong background in Cisco and other networking technologies and will work with other lead engineers in designing, deploying, and maintaining County-wide network infrastructure in alignment with business initiatives. Qualifications: Bachelor s degree or advanced certification from an accredited college or university in computer technology, business administration, management information or related field. CCNA preferred. Four years of progressively responsible experience in the support or management of networking technologies, network administration, or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Major Job Responsibilities: Design, deploy, and support of networking infrastructure including provisioning IP addressing, DHCP & DNS changes, VLANs, and Routing requirements. Implement configuration changes on Cisco Catalyst Switches, and Cisco Routers. Evaluate, recommend, and support the adoption of emerging networking technologies. Implement and maintain monitoring tools to immediately respond to network outages and interruptions. Maintain a solid understanding of technologies in their field, noting how their skills and knowledge can be used to improve the use of these technologies for their clients. Work with colleagues, clients and customers to create new configurations and new instances of existing technologies which expand the security, capacity, capabilities and effectiveness of information technology used by the organization. Ensure the ongoing viability of the technologies in their field by monitoring operational conditions and applying their knowledge and skills to create enhancements and solve problems. Provide expertise on projects involving the integration of existing and new technologies to enhance current systems and procedures. Communicate to clients, colleagues and management - both verbally and in written form - the status and condition of their technologies and steps being taken to ensure systems up time and viability. Be a backup resource for both IT Managers and front line staff. Performs related work as required. Ability to be a part of an on-call rotation.
Essential Job Functions:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies: Provide network design and consultation to independently debug complex network problems including Cisco switching and routing, IDS, IPSEC VPN and ACS. Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and configure medium to large networks. Proven crisis management skills. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations require in-depth evaluation of factors. Expert-level administration and troubleshooting knowledge preferred in the following products/technologies: • Cisco Catalyst Switches • Cisco routers • Cisco VPN solutions (AnyConnect) • AAA (RADIUS/TACACS). • QOS Knowledge. • Cisco Wireless Infrastructures • Dot1x, (VLAN Trunking and Routing experience) • LMS (Lan Manager Solution) • Scrutinizer, (Netflow Analyzer) • Cisco ASA Firewalls
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA), or CompTIA Network+ Certification • or Bachelor's degree in Computer Networking or related field • or 2 years network administration experience
Expertise in more than one of these areas is strongly preferred. Must have in-depth knowledge of Cisco switch and router products and mastery of how these products work across a variety of network implementations. Interfaces with current Security team to design and help maintain perimeter ASA infrastructure as well as internal ASAs. Receives minimal supervision. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. Ability to plan updates, changes and replacements so as to minimize negative impacts on, and maximize benefits for, clients. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with senior County management, officials of other County departments and representatives of private organizations. Ability to work autonomously. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. This class specification should not be interpreted as all-inclusive.
