Performs professional assessment, intake, case planning, supervision, and casework in the juvenile detention facility and the juvenile residential facility. Works with facility staff to ensure transportation of clients to court and community appointments.
Essential Job Functions:
• 40% - Client Intake – Completes an accurate and thorough intake on each assigned client presented for intake into the facility. May participate in case planning for clients. Incorporates evidence-based practices including motivational interviewing in work with clients. May perform screening with metal detectors to prevent weapons from entering the workplace. Assists law enforcement officers as needed and is a liaison with other community service providers. May be required to work various hours as assigned. • 30% - Case Liaison - Facilitates communication with other stakeholders regarding court processes, client attendance at court and court follow up. Attends population meeting to address issues with stakeholders. May participate in court hearings, prepare court reports, and make recommendations or present information to the Judge, District Attorney, and Defense Attorney. • 25% - Records Maintenance - Creates and maintains an individual file on each client ensuring all legal documents, reports, social documents, chronological and statistical reports, etc. are present and updated per policy. Completes all data entry into the required database within prescribed timeframes. • 5% - Performs related work as required. Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Years of Experience: One year experience in probation, parole, social work, counseling or related work with juvenile and/or adult offenders. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. License, certifications, etc… Valid Driver’s License and good driving record that meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage Policy. Personal vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by County). Proof of liability insurance required on personal vehicle. Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356. Must meet minimum levels on pre-employment testing of keyboarding/typing 30 wpm. Work is performed in an office environment and in the community. Tasks are regularly performed inside buildings with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions, however, travel outside is required and involves exposure to allergens, insects, dogs and other pets and safety hazards visiting client homes/vehicles. DNA, alcohol and drug screening will involve exposure to saliva and urine, blood borne pathogens, illnesses and diseases. Will have some exposure to hostile people. Must be available to work outside normal business hours on occasion. May be required to serve 24 hour on-call duty for one week period on rotating basis.
