RILEY COUNTY, KANSAS JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:               Urinalysis Technician (UA Tech)

 

Department:           Community Corrections     Division:  Adult and Juvenile Services

Reports To:           Adult Supervisor

Pay Grade:             B                                      Status:     Part Time, Intern

FLSA Status:         Non-Exempt

 

Position Summary:  To assist Riley County Community Corrections (RCCC) Officer in the collection and field testing of both saliva and urine samples provided by adult and juvenile offenders assigned to RCCC.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Observe same sex urine collection for the purposes of drug screening
  • Field test urine samples as needed for the purposes of monitoring the offenders sobriety
  • Operate breathalyzer instrument to estimate blood alcohol content
  • Collect saliva specimens for packaging/shipment to Redwood Toxicology for testing
  • Complete chain of custody paperwork for urine and saliva testing as required
  • Document collection/results of urine/saliva/breath tests in the state database and in color code database
  • Promptly notify Administrative Assistant when drug testing supplies need replenished
  • Ensure established safety practices are strictly adhered to during the collection of any and all specimens
  • Maintain confidentialy, privacy, and specimen integrity throughout the collection and transfer process
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director or designee

 

Position Requirements

 

General: 

  • Be twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • Be qualified for access to any Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) data
  • Not be registered on the Kansas child abuse registry
  • Not be registered on the Kansas adult abuse registry
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

 

A name-based criminal record check must be completed prior to initial employment; annually for the duration of employement; and whenever there is reasonable belief that an employee’s criminal history status has changed.A fingerprint-based records check is to be completed within the first 30 days of employment.

 

Education: 

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.  College hours in the Criminal Justice field

preferred.
