Screen for weapons, patrol the buildings and grounds for safety of personnel, and protection of property. Provide parking control and protects County Facilities against unauthorized entrance, theft, and fire. Work in a Control Center Environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Responds to calls and requests for assistance. Initiates necessary action when called to sick/injury incidents, suspicious persons, disturbances, fire and holdup alarms. Detains persons for violations of State Statutes, contempt of court, warrants, and County Resolutions. Provides information and assistance to visitors; promotes favorable public relations between Sedgwick County and the general public. Escorts personnel to and from parking areas. Provides protective service during courtroom hearings. Operates metal detection and x-ray equipment. Works in a Control Center; receiving/placing phone calls, monitoring cameras and controlled access areas, radio contact/dispatch of officers, coordinating with other agencies. Utilizes computer programs for information and typing reports. Assists in other duties of the Courthouse Police Department as assigned. Driving of County vehicles, not limited to a Golf Cart, and Personally Owned Vehicle when attending training.
High School Diploma. Minimum of one-year of law enforcement or security experience. A valid Kansas Driver s License is required. The applicant will have a demonstrated history of high ethical standards. The ability to testify in a court of law is a necessary aspect of the position; therefore persons with negative Brady/Giglio issues will be eliminated. This position requires an ability to react calmly in a quick and efficient manner to emergency situations and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.
Must have the ability to operate a portable radio, motor vehicles, lock and unlock doors, operate metal detection equipment, x-ray machines, and the ability to walk up and down flights of stairs. Must have sufficient visual acuity to discern shapes and shadows of weapons as displayed on x-ray monitors. Must have sufficient hearing to communicate with citizens requesting assistance. Must have the ability to operate computers to communicate by e-mail, write reports, organize information, and other functions involving the use of county software and be Microsoft Office proficient.
Portable radio, motor vehicle, metal detection equipment, x-ray machines, collapsible baton, pepper spray, handcuffs, computers, telephone and cellular telephones.
Position requires both indoor and outdoor inspections during all types of weather conditions, exposed to heat and cold extremes and temperature changes. There is a chance of occasional exposure to hazards or risk of bodily injury. Ability to hear, speak, and write the English language understandably. Ability to remain calm, accurately and quickly interpret situations and communicate information clearly in accordance with policy and procedures. Ability to use defensive and restraining equipment. Ability to work under adverse conditions of violence, danger, environment and emotional stress responding to complaints and assistance requests. Ability to exchange information both orally and in writing, composing/typing reports, and speaking with other law enforcement personnel. Microsoft Office proficient. Stand for extended periods of time while scanning individuals with a hand held wand. (This requires bending and stooping over.) Constantly moves about patrolling the Courthouse Complex providing a visible and physical deterrent in uniform protecting life and property; identifies hazards; monitors for signs of criminal activity; patrols for suspicious persons and/or vehicles. Ability to move quickly and forcefully in response to unexpected situations. Ability to understand and operate two-way communications equipment; collapsible baton handcuffs, and mace. Ability to remember names, faces, and details of incidents. Ability to visually identify and recognize unusual behaviors of persons to prevent crime. Attends instruction and demonstrates proficiency during self defense training. Follows emergency evacuation procedures and provides emergency response services in the event of a fire or other emergency; typically navigates the building via stairs, identifies safety hazards, and assists occupants with emergency evacuation. Ability to observe and comprehend activity on multiple surveillance monitors
