Work as part of a team providing crisis intervention services and pre-admission assessments to meet the needs of members of the community who are in crisis. Performs clinical assessments for individuals who present as a danger to self or others at Crisis or other community locations. In addition, completion of intake, follow-up, and outreach appointments, as well as answering crisis telephone lines as needed is required. Pre-admission assessments entail evaluating for appropriate level of care. Support suicide prevention efforts in the community while upholding the mission and vision of COMCARE of Sedgwick County.
Essential Job Functions:
Service Provision • Complete risk assessments for appropriate level of care • Provide brief focused therapy to address the immediate mental health needs of clients who present as currently dangerous • Conduct mental health assessments in the community with the mobile crisis unit (MCU) to determine a client’s immediate mental health needs • Provide assessment and brief focused therapy services to COMCARE Assessment Program for Seniors (CAPS) clients • Other duties as assigned by supervisor • Intake/assessment to include history, presenting problems and diagnoses using DSM-V criteria • Initiates outreach to increase engagement Documentation • Complete progress notes in accordance with COMCARE guidelines which meet requirements for medical necessity, goal-directed therapy and client response to treatment within prescribed timelines • Complete Notes for Record, precautions, authorization for release of records, releases of information, safety documents and other documentation as required and/or recommended within established deadlines • Completes call logs to ensure important information is available to other providers • Assessment tools are to be accurate and completed within the timeframe established for the particular screen • Monitor treatment plans and update within the required timeframe • Respond to Utilization Review staff feedback forms and make corrections as needed • Enter AIMS data as needed • Completes court reports or treatment summaries within required timelines as set by the entity requesting these documents Specialized Activities • Spent time coordinating and assisting with a special program or project at CIS which enhances or aids in the delivery of services to mental health consumers • Activities may include but not be limited to competency evaluations, stress trauma assistance team, crisis assessment program for seniors, mobile crisis unit, or the collection and dissemination of data collected from local agencies • Coordinate admission to appropriate level of care General Administrative Duties • Participate in multidisciplinary or peer team meetings to improve treatment and develop intervention strategies as needed. • Attend staff meetings. • Perform other duties as assigned within the agency. • Travel to and from program sites in personal transportation. • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Professional Development • Maintain licensure as required by Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board and Social and rehabilitation Services to provide therapy in a Community Mental Health Center. • Cooperate with credentialing activities related to COMCARE, the CMHCs Association, and/or the BSRB. • Identify and attend continuing education/training to enhance or expand clinical practice and implement best practices related to the employee’s area of practice within COMCARE. • Participate in individual supervision. • Supervise practicum students when assigned.
• Master’s Degree or higher • Must be licensed by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board as an LMSW, LMFT, LMLP, LCP, or LP. • Must have a valid Kansas Driver’s license and current proof of automobile insurance. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and meet driver qualification standards as set forth in Sedgwick County’s Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage policy. • Meet the specifications as outlined in the CMHC licensing standards and pass KBI, DCF child abuse check, adult abuse registry, and motor vehicle screens. • Must complete orientations provided by Sedgwick County and COMCARE. • Holiday work is expected and required. • Ability to cope with psychotic episodes of adults and children. • Knowledge of community services and benefit programs. • Ability to develop and maintain rapport with patients, the general public and all levels of staff. • Ability to keep client documentation current. • Must possess the awareness and judgment to intervene appropriately when dealing with escalating emotional situations. • Possess the ability to negotiate several flights of stairs at a time and move effectively in varied settings throughout the community. • Possess the mobility and judgment to execute personal protective measures. • Able to calmly and effectively deal with agitated individuals or high risk situations. • Demonstrate autonomous critical thinking skills. • Demonstrate good professional judgment and decision-making skills. • Self-motivated. • Able to work with minimal direct supervision. • Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment. • Able to handle competing urgent priorities. • Possess basic or intermediate computer skills: able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record. • Able to work multiple shifts. • Must have a valid Kansas Driver s license, current proof of automobile insurance and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. • Drive personal vehicle and/or occasionally drive a county owned vehicle for business purposes (ex. Transport clients to appointments), as required; documenting and reporting mileage according to agency procedures, so that services can be provided in a timely manner; comply with agency vehicle policy at all times.
• Background checks including but not limited to KBI and DCF adult and child abuse registry. • Driver's license check. • Pre-employment urine drug screen.
• Candidates must have basic computer or intermediate skills in word processing and email software, must be able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record.
• Frequently sits at desk and operates computer. • Occasional lifting of personal computer equipment, peripheral devices, and supplies up to 50 pounds. • Fast-paced environment and may occasionally work with combative emotional consumers. • Office and community work
