Job Objectives:
Projects a positive and professional image of the Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office to all customers through various modes of communication (oral, written, in person, telephone, email, etc.). Provides information and assistance to all internal and external customers {property owners and the general public}, both oral and written, regarding all aspects of the Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office processes, procedures and data.

Essential Job Functions:
Provide quality customer service to Citizens of Sedgwick County and other stakeholders regarding Real Estate and Personal Property accounts.

• Provide information orally, written and in person.

• Assist Property owners with preparation of information for the appeals process.

• Work with departments/divisions to reconcile any changes, questions or inequities.

• Work with divisions to meet their staffing and production needs.

• Assist with Individual Personal Property Accounts; Business Property Accounts; Tax Exemption Applications; Appraised Valuation Appeal Forms and Real Estate Accounts. Assist with research of property valuation history and the navigation of the Appraiser’s Office website.

Communicate and disseminate information pertaining to applicants requesting tax exemptions.

• Assist Not-for-Profit organizations and farmers in filing the necessary paper work that would enable them to be exempt from Ad valorem Taxation.

• Provide information from Board of Tax Appeals (BOTA) relating to tax exemptions.

• Consult weekly with immediate Supervisor, Chief Deputy Appraiser and the County Counselor to make a fair and equitable recommendation as to whether Ad valorem Taxation should be granted or denied prior to submitting application to the County Appraiser for signature and then forwarding the application to the Board of Tax Appeals.

• Enter exemption application information into the Exemption Data Base.

• Process State Board of Tax Appeal Orders.

• Make necessary changes in Orion and Aumentum System.

• Reduce or remove penalties.

• Pro-rate or remove taxable value. Assist the Special Projects Section (Personal Property) with valuing assets that have been rendered by the property owner on the annual Tangible Commercial or Individual Personal Property Form.

Assist all sections within the Appraiser’s Office

 • Research and prepare Change Orders for Tangible Individual Personal Property Accounts, Tangible Business Property Accounts and Real Estate Accounts.

• Discover, list, and value personal and business property assets.

• Research and correct discrepancies.

• Prepare responses for Kansas Open Records Act KORA requests.

• Assist the Sedgwick County Call Center.

• Process Tax Grievance Applications.

• Prepare Commissioner’s Reports.

• Prepare weekly revenue deposits.

Job Standards:
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of college or equivalent work experience.

International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Course 101 Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal, PVD Kansas Property Tax Law, PVD Personal Property Appraisal.

Two (2) years of work experience in property taxation, experience working with the public, or any equivalent training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Sedgwick County Customer Service Certificate

Must have a vehicle registered in the State of Kansas to use as required; provide proof of valid vehicle insurance with coverage in the State of Kansas and current Kansas Driver’s License.

Testing/Screening Requested:
Math, Excel, Access

Equipment:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, etc). Ability to learn various tax system software applications. Calculator, telephone, copier and fax. Manuals and other instruction documents.
