Job Objectives:
The Communications Intern position offers a one year opportunity to explore public communications, administrative career fields, gain valuable insight into local government, and procure future leadership positions. This Management Intern experience has proven to be an excellent training ground for higher level administrative and managerial positions at all levels of government.

Essential Job Functions:
The Communications Intern position involves research and analytical work on communication strategy and multi-media outlets. The Intern will assist in creative ways for the organization to tell it's stories to stakeholders. They are given work assignments involving meaningful participation in a wide variety of problems facing the Sedgwick County metropolitan area. Interns attend County Commission meetings, other management level meetings, and public events. They are given in-depth experience with communicating or management of all facets of County government including, but not limited to: public finance, public health, public safety, public works, human resources, and other County functions.

Job Standards:
Applicant should be a recent Bachelor's level graduate by June 2018. Prefer a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Corporate or Strategic Communications, Mass Media Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. Related graduate level studies and/or work experience can be taken into consideration. Writing or work product sample is required. Must be from the last 4 months. Transcripts are also required. Testing/Screening Requested:

Standard office equipment including, but not limited to, computer, printer, scanner, copier, fax, shredder, and multi-line telephone. Photography, video, social media outlets, and graphic design programs could also be used.

Work Environment:
Primarily office but may include occasional outdoor assignments with exposure to weather.
