Job Title: PT WIC Clerk
Salary: $12.50 Hourly

M-F 8-5, up to 20 hours per week

This is a clerical position involving checking in clients for appointments, determining client eligibility, filing, telephone work, operation of the State of Kansas automated computer system, food benefit issuance, and other assigned responsibilities. This position requires a thorough knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides Education • Explains WIC program services to clients using motivational counseling techniques. • Provides appropriate community referrals. • Provides guidance and documentation of client’s secondary nutrition education contacts. • Able to accurately read immunization records and make appropriate referral to those clients not currant on their vaccinations. • Provides WIC outreach.
Manage Record Keeping • Documents in the KWIC software client findings, HIPAA, Web IZ participation. • Verifies and documents client income and proofs for determining client eligibility. • Manages client’s next appointment letter and diet questionnaires. • Issuance of client’s food benefits. • Appropriate electronic signatures are captured for client’s rights and responsibility. • Meets program productivity standards. • Reports success stories.
Provides WIC call center services • Professionally schedules client appointments and answers client’s questions. • Has job knowledge of call center procedures/policies. • Use WIC phone standards. • Manages own e-timesheet and WIC daily hour reports appropriately and on time. • Manages voter registration. • Manages no show processes. • Handles breast pump issuances and return. • Completes lead screening and education.• Promotes breastfeeding. • Follows HIPAA and WIC confidentiality policies and procedures. • Lead and or assist with a quality improvement process within the agency. • Provide proof of MMR, varicella, Tdap vaccinations, or immunity within 10 days of employment start date or within 10 days of start of employee health insurance.
Participates in TB screening program that includes baseline screening for M. Tuberculosis infection within 10 days of employment. • This is a Tier 1 position; identified as personnel who, in the event of a public health emergency, will not be working within the emergency operations center or will not be sent out to the field as responders. Tier 1 staff complete courses IS 100 and 700 within 30 days of employment. Additional ICS trainings may be required.
The following criteria will be determined at the time of advertising the vacancy and before hiring of new staff and will be based on the language interpreter/proficiency needs of the program. 1. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, this position requires Spanish-English interpreter skills as determined by passing an interpreter test before hire. (National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care). 2. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, this position requires fluency [or proficiency] in English and Spanish languages as determined by fluency [proficiency] test before hire. After hire, an employee who passes the test can speak directly to Spanish-speaking clients and can agree to take a medical interpreter skills test to interpret between Spanish-speaking clients and English-speaking staff members. Bilingual individuals in English and a non-English language can take a fluency [proficiency] test in non-English language. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, only those who pass the test can use their non-English language with clients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). After hire, a bilingual employee who has passed the fluency or proficiency test can agree to take a medical interpreter skills test to interpret between a client with LEP and an English-speaking employee. High School diploma or equivalent required. Two years of experience in varied clerical and office setting work or various experience in a public setting providing customer service would be considered. Including such skills as, but not limited to, computer experience, data entry, customer service, phone experience, office equipment use, decision making skills.
