General Description and Purpose

The Director of Learning Resources is responsible for the operation of the Library and related services.                                                                                                  

      Primary Functions/ResponsibilitiesSupervise the Library staff.

  1. Ensure effective relations with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  2. Provide effective access to Library resources for distance learners.
  3. Assist all patrons and provide services as needed.
  4. Establish an instructor based advisory committee for the purpose of providing input for Library acquisitions and operations.
  5. Conduct annual inventory of Library.
  6. Seek to continuously improve Library operations and services while seeking to raise the level of Library use by students, faculty, and others.
  7. Design and implement periodic promotional efforts to raise interest level in Library.
  8. Recommend changes in Library operations, facilities, holdings, etc. to increase traffic flow.
  9. Operate Library within allotted budget.
  10. Ensure that posted Library hours are maintained.
  11. Operate Library on Sunday afternoons as scheduled.
  12. Train and supervise Library staff.
  13. Other duties as assigned.                         

       Coordination and Accountability Tasks

  1. Coordinate all activities with the Vice President of Instruction.
  2. Serve as a back-up for ZOOM facilitators and others as needed.

       Supervises the Following Staff

  1. Supervises Library staff.
  2. Supervises work study personnel.

       Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Characteristics

  1. Knowledge of library operations.
  2. Computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and Internet.
  3. Educational media proficiency.
  4. Proficiency in operation and repair of Library equipment.

       Experience

  1. Work experience in a library, learning resource center or classroom setting preferred.
  2. Ability to provide support services for instructional technology including interactive television, classroom projection systems, Smartboards, and teleconferencing systems preferred.

       Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Instructional Technology, Teaching or a related field required.
  2. One to three years’ work experience in the field will be considered.
  3. Master’s degree preferred.

       Certifications and/or Licensure

             None

       Work Conditions/Environment

             Library environment.

       Other

             Position may require occasional evening and weekend work.
