Job Description:

The Pool Manager provides leadership with safe and efficient daily operations of the Augusta Municipal Swimming Pool. This position is also responsible for the aesthetics of the pool by ensuring the facility is clean and presentable at all times. Financial and supervisory responsibility is required with this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enforces applicable policies and procedures adopted by the Augusta City Council or implemented by management to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the swimming pool;
  • Administers disciplinary action to lifeguards within established policies of the City of Augusta;
  • Responsible for quality customer service by responding proactively to customer complaints, questions, concerns and suggestions related to pool operations;
  • Produces and maintains schedules of lifeguards, swimming lessons and pool parties;
  • Oversees the daily duties of opening and closing the pool, to include checking/monitoring chemical levels for compliance with established standards and regulations, and pool mechanical systems for proper functionality;
  • Checks the water levels multiple times daily, including backwashing (every other day at minimum – more often as needed);
  • Responsible for regular monitoring of patrons in the pool area by lifeguards – acts immediately and appropriately in the event of an emergency to secure safety of patrons;
  • Provides care and treatment as circumstances require until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services;
  • Enforces all rules with lifeguards and patrons to prevent injuries;
  • Ensures the facility and grounds are clean and aesthetically appealing at all times;
  • Presents professional appearance and a positive attitude at all times;
  • Regular attendance and irregular work hours – including weekends and holidays – is required;
  • Monitors weather conditions and takes appropriate action as deemed necessary;
  • Other duties as assigned by Parks Foreman

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

  • Participates in the lifeguard hiring process;
  • Prepares pool house prior to season opening;
  • Assists in collecting admission fees and/or passes from patrons, when needed;
  • Abides by all standards, conduct and policies, as stated in Employee Handbook;
  • Communicates regularly with the assistant pool manager and the Parks Foreman to ensure all facets of the operation are understood.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licensure, or Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED Required;
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR Certification;
  • Must possess and maintain current First Aid Certification;

Experience, Specialized Knowledge, and Other Requirements

  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques

Physical

  • Frequently required to sit, kneel, stand, stoop, reach and manipulate objects
  • Attentive to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors
  • Ability to properly extract victims from the pool to the deck
  • Has normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction
  • Hears normal tones, with or without correction
  • Has ability to work within environment described below

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions, including temperature extremes.  The employee may regularly be exposed to hot, sunny conditions.  The employee is also regularly exposed to fumes and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
