Job Title: Seasonal/Temporary Parks Maintenance
Salary: $9.50 Hourly
The City of Andover is accepting applications for temporary Park Department help. Must be 17 yrs. old minimum, possess a current valid Kansas DL and pass drug screening, background check and physical. Type of possible work includes: painting, janitor duties, weed trimming/pulling, picking up trash, push-mowing, brush clearing/chipping. Applicant should be able to withstand working outdoors in the elements. Experience with outdoor equipment is preferred but not necessary. Although this job is temporary (summer months), it may require working up to 40 hours/week. Benefits are not available because it is a temporary position. Job description follows.
Primary Functions of Work
Under the direct supervision of the Grounds and Buildings Superintendent or Parks Crew Chief, the laborer performs generally unskilled manual labor in maintaining City property and facilities. Any special skills required will be on-the-job training under direct supervision.
Examples of Work
· Mows grass and trims around structures.
· Various janitor duties at city facilities.
· Assists in repair and maintenance of City equipment and facilities.
· Transports tools and equipment to and from jobsites.
· Other related duties as deemed necessary or as required.
Experience: This is an entry level position with no prior experience required. Employee is expected to be able to learn the necessary information and skills to perform the job satisfactorily. Due to the duration (3-6 months) of the position, employee would perform basic repetitive tasks.
Education: No formal education required.
Skills: Reading and listening skills are necessary to follow instructions to learn operation of City equipment. The ability to use lawn care equipment, including mowers and string trimmers is preferred but not required. Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license is mandatory.
As an entry level seasonal position, very little problem solving will exist.
Very limited decision making exists in this position. Duties follow prescribed instructions, procedures, and policies.
Employee is expected to use equipment and materials properly to prevent unwarranted damage or excessive consumption. He/she is responsible for reporting any problems immediately to the Grounds and Buildings Superintendent or Parks Crew Chief or an experienced employee.
Supervision is provided by Grounds and Buildings Superintendent or Parks Crew Chief. Employee does not have supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.
Routine contact with other City employees and occasional contact with the general public.
Heavy manual labor is required; extreme weather conditions, working with fuels, oil, and maintenance chemicals are factors in this position. Personal protective equipment is frequently required.
The majority of the work involves physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push objects or equipment possibly weighing fifty pounds or more; climbing in and out of ditches; bending, stooping, and and/or shoveling as required; climbing and reaching to change light bulbs, etc.
