Job Objectives:

Assist in collection of data, inspections and valuation of personal property in Reno County for ad valorem tax purposes.

Essential Job Functions:

Discover, list and value personal property mobile homes, oil and gas leases, commercial machinery and equipment and individual personal property.  Determine by visual inspection if property is Real or Personal according to state statutes.  Maintain current Oil and Gas records and Division Orders.  Assist with all levels of the hearing process.  Perform detailed audit of 10% of all personal property and oil and gas records to ensure information is current.  Provide tax estimates for mobile vehicles.  Assist general public with answers regarding appraisal process.  Detect errors in reporting, listing and valuation of personal property accounts as required.  Recognized lease size, royalty owners, operator changes and mineral right ownership using Register of Deeds records and other available sources.

Job Standards:

High school diploma or GED.  Completion of PVD’s Valuation of Personal Property and Property Tax Law within the first year of employment.  Completion of PVD’s Oil and Gas Valuation I & II within two years of employment.  Experience in computer skills and calculator, basic math skills, basic knowledge of vehicle make and models.  General knowledge of personal property and oil and gas appraisal theory and valuation techniques and basic knowledge of Kansas property tax laws.

Testing/Screening Requested:

Must pass a pre-employment Physical Capacity Profile and Drug Screen.  Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.


Operate all job related machinery, equipment, tools and other aids as required, necessary or needed in the performance of these job functions.

Work Environment:

60% indoors and 40% and may be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
