Salary Schedule: Hourly, Seasonal Range: Step 1($8.50) – Step 13 ($11.43)
The lifeguard position ensures the safety of all patrons at all times. This position may also perform a variety of administrative, organizational and semi-skilled work at the Central Park Pool in Bel Aire.
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Director and Pool Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the Safety of all patrons at all times.
Be at the appropriate position and ready to begin duties promptly according to daily schedule.
Wear appropriate staff attire at all times while on duty.
Observe and enforce all pool rules and regulations.
Practice preventative lifeguarding by being completely familiar with enforcement of all rules and regulations of the facility.
Observe the pool at all times leaving station only to make a rescue or when relieved by another lifeguard.
Be familiar with and participate in emergency action plans as needed.
Receive and care for patrons requiring first aid as necessary.
Attend all staff meetings.
Attend all in-service trainings.
Maintain skills at required level by swimming and practicing on a regular basis.
Answer questions, provide information, and practice public relations.
Staff special events and private parties.
Perform assigned tasks while on break.
Complete all assigned maintenance tasks to insure pool areas and pool building are kept clean, neat and orderly.
Report to supervisor when materials or supplies are needed.
Assist in completion of reports as needed.
Perform cashier duties.
Other tasks assigned by supervisor.
Mature individual at least 15 years of age.
WSI, good public relations, communication, and organizational skills.
Pre employment and random drug testing required.
Must posses a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Must have the following current certifications: 1) Lifeguarding, 2) CPR/PR, 3) First Aid.
Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects, bending, kneeling, sitting and climbing is required daily to fulfill the duties of this position.
Some adverse working conditions exist with this position. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, heavy machinery, and excessive noise in all types of weather conditions can be expected.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, drive, push, pull, carry, see, hear, speak, crawl, use hands, climb, kneel, smell and other similar types of functions.
The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 110 pounds and frequently lift 25 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most work will be performed outdoors in various types of conditions.
The job is performed primarily during the daytime hours but must be available for special situations and times.
