Job Description:

Job Objectives:

Assists Intensive Supervision Officer (ISO) in providing supervision and case management with clients under correctional supervision within the Division of Corrections.

 

Essential Job Functions:

50% - Client Supervision - Duties are performed under general supervision; require driving to transport clients to approved destinations and to perform field visits to verify client compliance to court-ordered conditions and/or program rules.  Assists ISOs in monitoring client participation in required activities (i.e., school, employment, treatment, etc.). Monitors and documents client behaviors, activities, associates, compliance with curfew and/or house arrest, and attendance at required activities.
30% -  Case Management - Conducts office and field visits to fill in for ISOs.  Performs data-entry of information into the state database. Assists in providing clients with job seeking information, techniques in finding employment, providing transportation; identifies appropriate job possibilities, and communicates with employers and employment agencies to arrange interviews and verify client’s activities.  Performs alcohol and drug screenings on clients through urinalysis and/or breathalyzer testing.  Manages the shipping and packing of specimens, notifies supervisor when supplies are low and restocks supplies.
15% - Data maintenance - Assists in gathering, verifying and data entry of intake information by interviewing appropriate persons and analyzing reports. Obtains reports from law enforcement when a client has been arrested and placed in jail, investigates and reports client’s progress and all alleged violations of probation to the court as necessary.  Maintains statistical reports and completes monthly stats by deadline.  Assists in explaining applicable laws, regulations and standards of behavior to clients to elicit acceptable client behavior.

5% - Performs related work as required.

Job Standards:

Minimum Qualifications

Educational Requirements:   Minimum of twelve (12) earned college credits.  At least (3) earned college credits in adolescent development, psychology, criminal justice or a related subject.  Transcript verifying education credits is required.

Years of Experience:   Professional references are required to verify the related work experience.

License, certifications, etc…  Must be at least 21 years of age.  Valid Driver’s License and good driving record that meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage Policy.  Personal vehicle for use making field visits when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by the County).  Proof of liability insurance on personal vehicle.  Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs.  Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356.

 

Physical Requirements of Position:

  • Requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another, light lifting, standing, walking, stair climbing and driving to attend court hearings and making field visits to clients at their home, worksite, school and service providers.
  • Requires sufficient strength and coordination to defend one’s self from attack.
  • Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements such as keyboarding and operating basic office machines, such as a personal computer, fax, copy machine, etc.
  • Requires sufficient abilities in vision, hearing, and sense of smell in order to complete tasks which involve perception, discernment, written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Dependable and timely attendance is required.
  • Requires bending, color identification, gripping hands and fingers, hearing voice conversations, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing and walking for long periods.
  • Requires visual acuity sufficient to safely complete tasks and operate a motor vehicle.

 

Testing/Screening Requested:

Candidates selected to interview must meet the minimum level on a Keyboarding/Typing test of a30 wpm.

 

Equipment:

PC, general office equipment, and two-way radio

 

Work Environment:

Usual working days/hours:  Monday - Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Location of work:  3803 E Harry, Ste 125, Wichita, KS

Tasks are regularly performed inside buildings with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions, however, travel outside is required and involves exposure to allergens, insects, dogs and other pets and safety hazards while visiting client homes. Ability to endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted by hostile views and opinions of clients and their families.  DNA, alcohol and drug screening will involve exposure to saliva and urine, blood borne pathogens, illnesses and diseases.
