Job Description:

Job Objectives:

Performs group facilitation with adult and/or juvenile clients.   Performs routine work involving the observation, security, supervision, and training. Leads client programming activities within the program or, as approved, outside the facility, with emphasis on security, behavior modification, control and modeling of pro-social attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors.  Ensures adherence to case plan.  Responsibilities include teamwork, oral communication skills, adherence to fidelity of the group model, accurate data collection, reporting and documentation of services in client records.  Work requires mastery of group facilitation techniques to manage, teach and engage clients in sessions.


Essential Job Functions:

60% - Client Supervision – Provides direct services to clients, which may include case management and facilitation of client groups with adults and/or juveniles.  Requires establishing and maintaining professional client relationships, motivating clients, effectively managing conflict, and consistent delivery of high quality services. Performs pat down searches and screening with metal detectors to prevent weapons from entering the workplace.
20% - Records Maintenance - Requires planning to prepare rosters, lessons, materials and handling of logistics for group sessions. Monitors inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for group programming.
15% - Case Management - Completes necessary documentation to provide summary of lessons conducted, behavior and participation of clients into the required database within the prescribed timeframes.  Receive and communicate concerns, problem-solve and maintain positive working relationships with supervision officers, staff members in other divisions and community agencies.

5% - Performs related work as required.

Job Standards:

Minimum Qualifications

Educational Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required.

Years of Experience:   One year experience in probation, parole, social work, counseling or related work with juvenile and/or adult offenders.   Professional references are required to verify the related work experience.

License, certifications, etc.… Must be at least 21 years of age.  Valid Driver’s License and good driving record that meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage Policy.  Personal vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by County).  Proof of liability insurance required on personal vehicle.  Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs.  Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356.


Physical Requirements of Position:

  • Requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another, light lifting, standing, walking, stair climbing and driving to attend court hearings and make field visits to clients at their home, worksite, school and service providers.
  • Ability to endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted by hostile views and opinions of clients and their families.
  • Requires sufficient strength and coordination to defend one’s self from attack.  Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination to perform skilled repetitive movements such as keyboarding and operating basic office machines, such as a personal computer, fax, copy machine, etc.
  • Requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Dependable and timely attendance is required.
  • Requires sufficient abilities in vision, hearing, and sense of smell in order to complete tasks which involve perception, discernment, written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Requires bending, color identification, gripping hands and fingers, hearing voice conversations, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing and walking for long periods.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to successfully complete tasks and to operate a motor vehicle.





Work Environment:

Usual working days/hours:  Tuesday - Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Work is performed in an office environment and in the community.  Tasks are regularly performed inside buildings with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions, however, travel outside is required and involves exposure to allergens, insects, dogs and other pets and safety hazards visiting client homes/vehicles. DNA, alcohol and drug screening will involve exposure to saliva and urine, blood borne pathogens, illnesses and diseases.  Will have some exposure to hostile people.  Must be available to work outside normal business hours on occasion.
