The Director of Nursing of COMCARE is ultimately responsible for all nursing (psychiatric) care provided to patients.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Employee must be able to complete complex tasks by applying standard office policies, authorized instructions, and past precedents to achieve a desired outcome. Employee must quickly recognize emergency or sensitive situations and take appropriate action. Critical decision making and the ability to think through the consequences of a decision are essential in this position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Orient and train all new COMCARE nursing staff
- Ensure adequate nursing coverage at COMCARE programs
- Monitor staff performance and conduct employee evaluations
- Ensure clinical productivity
- Conduct staff meetings
- Monitor documentation for billing, medical records and utilization review
- Identify needs for training and policy changes
- Provide individual and/or group supervision of staff and document sessions
- Assure that policies, procedures, and administrative duties are completed by assigned staff according to program specifications
- Provide training to provider staff on physical health conditions and diseases
Staff Recruitment and Hiring
- Participate in selection process, interviewing, and hiring activities and paperwork for nursing applicants
- Coordinate the distribution of nursing students through COMCARE programs
Consumer Related Services
- Mediate consumer and personnel conflicts involving nursing staff
- Affirm and celebrates consumer successes
- Ensure direct patient care is provided; oversee nursing coordination of lab being ordered by COMCARE medical staff as well as follow up when requested by medical staff
- Serve as COMCARE's Infection Control Officer and oversees training, program ICO's and other activities related to Infection Control
- Ensure supply of samples and coupons are monitored at all COMCARE sites

Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a degree as a Registered Nurse.
Years of Experience: 5 years clinical experience in psychiatry and a preferably a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated administrative experience as well as experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
License, certifications, etc… License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas. Must have a valid Kansas Driver’s license and current proof of automobile insurance. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and meet driver qualification standards as set forth in Sedgwick County’s Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage policy. Meet the specifications as outlined in the CMHC licensing standards and pass KBI, DCF child abuse check, adult abuse registry, and motor vehicle screens. Must complete orientations provided by Sedgwick County and COMCARE.
Years of Experience: Greater than 5 years clinical experience in psychiatry and a preferably a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated administrative experience as well as experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Requirements of Position:
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and /or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time including while driving for out of the area meetings. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Candidates must have basic computer or intermediate skills in word processing and email software and must be able to learn complex software related to an electronic medical record.
Usual working days/hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location of work: 1919 N Amidon
May work in adverse conditions. Fast-paced environment and may occasionally work with combative emotional consumers.
