CITY OF CHENEY POSITION DESCRIPTION
Class Title: Swimming Pool Lifeguard
Department: Parks & Pool
Salary Schedule: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Seasonal $7.25- $12.54/hr
DOQ POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the safety and well being of swimmers at the Cheney Municipal Pool.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Pool Manager and Head Lifeguard.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Monitors swimmers for safety associated with life guard duties. Assists or performs daily cleaning of facility and maintenance of equipment. Completes reports and records assigned by the Pool Manager. Assists with preparations and cleanup for daily activities and operations. Assist with cleaning, pool parties, swimming lessons and all other operations or special events. Helps with concessions, sales and inventory. Promotes safety for pool participants. Follows safety directives established by the City and Pool Manager. Patrols the pool, facilities, building and associated grounds in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. Performs duties of the lifeguard as required or scheduled.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the phone, conducting classes, selling tickets, collecting fees, making arrangements for rental and pool use, helping set up for classes, events, etc. Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPEREINCE: Must be 15 years of age. Works well with others and the public. Pool experience helpful but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, participants and general public.
LICENSES REQUIRED Current CPR and First Aid cards required. Must possess current Basic Life guarding certificate.Training to obtain certifications will be provided upon employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, push, pull, carry, see, hear, balance, bend, speak, crawl, use hands, climb, kneel and other similar types of functions. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds as required during lifesaving or first aid responses. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most work will be performed outdoors in various types of conditions. The job is performed primarily during the daytime hours but must be available for special situations and times.
