Job Description:




The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform seasonal work of a manual nature, which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill or an acquired skill or previous experience in order to do an effective job. Work is generally performed under the immediate direction of a supervisor, but many types of work assigned may be very routine and repetitive in nature and after once learned can be carried on without difficulty and only under general supervision.


·         Operates a small truck to pick up items for delivery other City facilities;

·         Unloads truck and stocks items in storeroom;

·         Operates triplex greens mowers, walking and triplex riding power mowers in cutting grass of greens, collars of greens, around sand traps and the more inaccessible areas of fairways;

·         Trims bushes and low branches of trees on fairways;

·         Operates self-propelled mowing machines;

·         Waters greens and fairways;

·         Changes greens cups, moves tee markers, services ball washers, raises golf ball marks, spot waters greens and collars;

·         Performs custodial and maintenance duties in and around the buildings of the golf course, including painting and minor repairs;

·         Cleans litter from golf course areas under the direction of a supervisor;

·         Performs minor maintenance tasks on motorized equipment such as cleaning, oiling and greasing;

·         Visually inspects vehicles for mechanical defects and reports finding to appropriate personnel;

·         Use mops, brooms, paintbrushes and rollers and work with cleaning fluids, chemicals, pesticides, insecticides, paints, cleaning agents or similar solutions using only normal protective equipment.

·         Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.

·         Performs other essential and marginal functions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to:

·         Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.

·         Learn the operation of motorized equipment such as push and riding mowers, string trimmers, edger, tractors, and brush-hog mowers.

·         Learn proper use of hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, picks, shovels, spades, rakes, loppers, saws or similar tools.

·         Learn irrigation techniques using sprinklers, hoses and flooding methods.

·         Learn cleaning, maintenance, and gardening methods, materials and equipment.

·         Understand and follow oral and written instruction in the English language.

·         Communicate orally with co-workers and the general public in a one-to-one setting.

·         Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.

·         Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Work Environment:

·         Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).

·         Move light objects (less than 20 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).

·         Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time (i.e., picks up trash from road side, works under equipment).

·         Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.

·         Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.

·         Lift arms above shoulder level (i.e., throws bags and loose trash into a truck, and enters the cab of a vehicle.

·         Climb ladders or steps to reach objects.

There is no experience or training requirement for this entry-level position.
