Job Description:

Job Objectives:

Confirms, inspects, evaluates, and negotiates the acquisition of County rights-of-way for roads bridges and stormwater/drainage projects.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Acquires right of way for Public Works projects

  • Appraises property necessary to implement Public Works projects
  • Contacts property owners or designated representatives via all available media
  • Negotiates the cost of right of way with property owners or their designated representative
  • Closes the acquisition of right of way process

Researches property documents

  • Confirms right of way and easements prior to negotiations
  • Participates and supports the condemnation process if necessary
  • Provides supporting documentation required
  • Serves as expert witness in condemnation cases and confers with attorneys
  • Provides technical support for other design, operations and maintenance functions within Public Works

Prepares estimates of right of way costs

  • Provides right of way estimates for projects
  • Makes recommendations regarding purchase prices and acquisition procedures
  • Reviews pertinent private sector property appraisals and field checks property
  • Recommends acceptance of appraisals

Job Standards:

Minimum Qualifications

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent

Years of Experience:  One to three years real estate appraisal or sales experience

License, certifications, etc…  Valid Kansas Drivers license

Preferred Qualifications

License, certifications, etc…  Kansas Real Estate License

 

Work Environment:

Usual working days/hours:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Location of work:  1144 S Seneca

Salary Range:  $15.20 - $20.25 (hourly)

The employee is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
