Job Title: Wastewater Utility Laborer
Salary: $12.50 Hourly
Reports to: Wastewater Superintendant
Primary Functions of Work
Provides assistance for generally low-skilled tasks. Requires extensive supervision and training, and is therefore not assigned specific responsibilities.
- Operates mowers and string trimmers.
- Conducts sewer locates
- Cleans and paints Wastewater utility equipment and property
- Assists in maintenance and repair of sewer collection system, treatment facilities, and maintenance equipment.
- Other related duties as deemed necessary or as required.
Experience: This is an entry level position, and prior experience is not required. Employee is expected to acquire the necessary information and skills to perform the job satisfactorily within six months.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Skills: Basic computer literacy skills. The ability to follow oral instructions. The ability to read and comprehend written materials. The ability to operate lawn care equipment, maintenance equipment, and
possession of a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
Problem Solving: Limited problem solving exists in this position.
Decision Making: Limited decision making exists in this position. Duties follow prescribed instructions, procedures, and policies.
Accountability: Employee is not responsible for budgetary control and does not participate in the annual department budget process.
Supervision: Supervision is provided by the Superintendent or his designee. Employee does not have supervisory responsibility of subordinate personnel.
Personal Relations: Routine contact with other City employees and occasional contact with the general public.
Working Conditions: Heavy manual labor is required, extreme weather conditions, and working with fuels, oils, and maintenance chemicals are factors in this position. Exposure to raw sewage is ever present. Electrical hazards exist in the workplace. Frequent exposure to moving parts and machinery. Hearing protection is frequently required.
Physical Requirements: Frequently involves heavy physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy (50 lb. or more) objects. Climbing in and out of ditches and manholes, climbing and reaching to trim trees, change light bulbs, etc. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, shoveling, etc. required in conducting daily duties.
