The Colwich Police Department is interested in professional, highly motivated, problem solving & community oriented individuals for full-time Police Officer position to start January, 2018.

Duties and responsibilities include enforcing all federal, state and local laws and ordinances; taking calls for service; patrolling business districts and residential neighborhoods to deter and detect crime; investigating complaints; citing and/or arresting law violators; following up on pending reports and cases; preparing and/or serving civil law processes; protecting person(s) or property; and securing and protecting prisoners. When not responding to calls for service, department members are expected to use self-directed work time in an efficient manner by self-initiating work on those tasks identified by supervisory personnel as priorities for this job position. Applicants must be able to perform these duties and responsibilities in a race and ethnicity neutral manner. An officer must be able to maintain good working relationships with citizens and actively promote police/community relations. An officer will be required to do a variety of technical and administrative functions that serve the public and the police department. An element of danger is associated with the position and an officer will be subjected to extreme, adverse, and stressful conditions. Officers must be able to function independently for most of the workday.

Minimum qualifications include, high school or GED diploma, 21-years of age at time of appointment, no criminal record, possess a valid Kansas driver's license and able to pass; typing test, physical agility test, written aptitude test, polygraph, extensive background check, interview board, drug screen, physical and psychological testing. KSCPOST certification preferred.

During the Colwich Police Department application process your background will be closely examined. Review the following background ‘disqualifiers.’
Applicants will be eliminated from the process if they have falsified, intentionally misrepresented, or have not been completely truthful or have not fully disclosed ALL information requested on a questionnaire, document, or application in any part of the pre-employment process.
- Applicants must satisfy all requirements as set forth in Kansas Statute 74-5605 (must be a Citizen of the United States, must be at least 21 years of age, must be the holder of a high school diploma or equivalent achievement, i.e. GED, is of good moral character and free of any physical or mental condition which might adversely affect the applicant’s performance as a police officer.)
- If military service has been rendered your DD214 must reflect a separation code and an honorable discharge or a discharge under honorable conditions.
- No convictions for any misdemeanor crimes involving morals, drugs, or weapon charges in the past five years.
- Must not have used, bought, possessed, sold or assisted in the distribution of marijuana in the past three years.
- Must not have used, bought, possessed, sold or assisted in the distribution of illegal or non-prescriptive steroids in the past three years.
- Must not have used, bought, possessed, sold or assisted in the distribution of any felony level drug or controlled substance, i.e. cocaine, heroin, LSD, ecstasy, fentanyl, hashish, mushrooms; opium, methamphetamine, etc. in the past 10 years.
- No convictions or involvement of any misdemeanor crimes of violence, or use of physical force or threats, during the past five years.
- Has not been convicted, does not have an expunged conviction, and has not been placed on diversion by any state or federal government for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or its equivalent under the uniform code of military justice, when such misdemeanor crime of domestic violence was committed on or after May 22, 1997.
- No convictions or involvement in misdemeanor property crimes within the past three years.
- May not have been convicted of, plead guilty or not contest to, or been diverted on a serious traffic violation within the past five years. Serious traffic violations to include, but not limited to DUI, reckless driving, hit and run, vehicular homicide, and eluding a police officer.
- May not have been convicted of, plead guilty or no contest to or been diverted on no more than two moving traffic violations within the past year.
- No convictions, diversions or expungements of any felony crime including juvenile offenses.
- Must not be currently charged with or under indictment of any criminal activity other than minor traffic violations.
- As an adult or juvenile may not have been convicted of a crime involving an act of dishonesty, include but not limited to theft, insufficient funds (checks), fraud, false police reports etc.
- If previous law enforcement experience has been rendered, must not have received discipline for a sustained violation of dishonesty to include but not limited to, lying, falsifying reports or documents, illegally obtaining narcotics, courtroom testimony/credibility.
- Applicants with background under Brady/Gigilo rulings will not be considered.
