Job Title: Deputy Assistant County Appraiser
Salary: $0 Hourly

Hiring range - $20.23 - $22.06 depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefit package including KPERS retirement.

The Assistant County Appraiser is responsible for:

  • Assisting with reappraisal of all real property and maintenance of all real property records
  • Training and educate field staff
  • Analysis functions/Valuation model building 
  • APPEALS-Represents County at Appraisal Appeal Hearings
  • Appraisals
Other related duties - 
Communicate with public, other deparments and Department of Revenue to answer questions or research/provide requested information
Process quarterly reports
Assisting other staff as needed
Calculate work completed statistics
Perform statutory required functions of the office in the absence of the County Appraiser
Assist in payroll adjustments
Perform all other duties as deemed necessary
Scope of Responsibility

Determine, prioritize and assign staff to projects/phases of work to be completed; review the work and goals of staff members, request documentation as necessary from staff, provide staff with the necessary tools and supplies to complete assignments.

Internal and external contacts may include: the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator, external auditors, external consultants, vendors, general public and other individuals or groups.


Position Requirements

Experience:         A minimum of five years related experience.


  • Required:      High School Diploma or GED

One of the following designations RMA, CAE, RES, MAS, AAS, ASA, MAI, Generally Certified Appraiser or obtain one of the above designations within 2 years.

  • Preferred:     Degree from accredited college or university



Certifications:      Driver’s license

  • Office equipment: computer, printer, copier, telephone, fax machine, postage machine, folding machine,         

                 paper shredder, and related equipment

  • Drive a Motor Vehicle


  • Through working knowledge of Tyler Technologies Orion Software.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products and functions.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products and functions.
  • Able to use ARC GIS.

Special Working Conditions

At times may be required to negotiate construction and building sites, requiring good balance and the ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven surfaces.

Working Environment

  1. Physical Demands:       More than 30% of time is spent in the field measuring, surveying, and reviewing property. Must be able to walk carrying data collection equipment over rough terrain. The remainder of time is spent sitting for long periods of time performing computer data entry and analysis. Good physical health required.
  1. Visual, Hearing and Dexterity Demands:  Requires concentrated visual attention which must be maintained for sustained periods.  Good vision and hearing acuity is required.  Good eye and hand coordination is required.  Must possess good dexterity to operate appropriate equipment.
  1. Working Conditions:  Works in clean, well lit, heated and ventilated office.
