1st Class Pay Grade: 17  ($19.10 / $39,728.00 to $27.90 / $58,032.00)

Journeyman Pay Grade: 19  ($21.07 / $43,825.60 to $30.76 / $63,980.80 )

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, performs skilled work of journeyman level in constructing, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution and transmission systems.


•             Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.

•             Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.

•             Replace or straighten damaged poles.

•             Dig holes, using augers, and set poles, using cranes and power equipment.

•             Attach cross-arms, insulators, and auxiliary equipment to poles prior to installing them.

•             Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.

•             Trims trees.

•             Takes inventory.

•             Stands a regularly scheduled standby watch.

•             Installs Christmas decorations and decorations for special events.

•             Complies with all safety rules and procedures.

•             Works in adverse weather conditions.

•             Deals with the public in a manner that positively promotes the image of the City and handles complaints tactfully.

Experience and Education:

•             Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and exhibits knowledge of electrical distribution work.

•             Must have or acquire within the probationary period a commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement.


Physical Requirements:

•             Ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry over 50 pounds.

•             Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb poles, bend, kneel, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull and perform a variety of similar body movements.

•             Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate for climbing poles, operating a digger and other equipment, and driving a truck.

•             Ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and two-way radio and to hear faulty malfunctions of equipment.

•             Ability to see adequately for reading maps, work orders, instructions, computer screen, and to function safely in hazardous conditions.
