Class Title: Senior/Recreation Coordinator
Salary Schedule: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt Range: Step 1($13.96) – Step 13($18.77)
Contributes in a key role to the overall mission of the Bel Aire Senior and Bel Aire Recreation Departments by assisting in the performance of operations, communications, programming, planning, and marketing of both departments. Performs various duties and support in areas such as media, communication, planning, participation recruitment, development, organization, program delivery, and other public relation areas as needed.
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation/Senior Director.
Generally none. Will oversee volunteers, instructors, and possibly interns to organize events & programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with planning committees as well as the community in creating activities, goals, & future plans for the departments.
Researches, analyzes, and evaluates new service delivery methods & techniques for participants.
Plans, promotes, and prepares a monthly calendar of events & activities for seniors.
Researches, identifies and administers grants.
Develops informational content for the city’s website, cable channel, and social media.
Identifies and responds to citizen concerns or needs.
Prepares necessary contracts, reports, forms, & budgets for City Council, Central Plains Area Agency on Aging/Sedgwick County Department of Aging, and State Agencies.
Attends and participates in meetings of professional organizations connected to senior/recreation activities that are required or beneficial.
Monitors and assists in the development of annual budgets.
Explores ways to better serve members, increase participation, and add value to the programs.
Attends trainings and seminars related to senior/recreation programming.
Assists with Recreation program development, administration, delivery, and evaluation.
Greets public, answers incoming calls, acts as a conduit for information, routes calls/customers to the appropriate departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or course work in gerontology, social work, recreation, or related field preferred.
Prefer a minimum of one-year relevant experience in related fields; any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in planning and coordinating programs and events a plus.
Must have a valid Kansas Driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of computers, electronic data processing, and modern office practices/procedures.
Able to multitask and work independently with drive and initiative.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Establish and maintain successful working relationships with citizens, city staff & officials, other agencies, as well as the general public.
