Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Valley Center.  By submitting your application for any position with the City of Valley Center, you understand and agree to the following statements.

You understand that you may be required to take relevant employment testing, for the purpose of determining your capability of performing the duties of the position.  In the event you need reasonable accommodation for this testing or for the interview process, if selected, you understand that City of Valley Center will make this accommodation.  The City of Valley Center reserves the right to require medical documentation concerning the need for the accommodation.

If you are selected for employment by the City of Valley Center, you agree to participate in the appropriate examinations, determined by the position, which would include pre-employment physical examination and drug screening, and could include polygraph, psychological, and physical endurance examinations as well.  These examinations will be paid for entirely by the City of Valley Center.  Costs of transportation and time involved taking the examinations are the responsibility of the applicant. Should you terminate employment prior to the completion of six (6) months of employment you understand that the costs to the City of Valley Center for all examinations will be deducted from your final paycheck.


The City of Valley Center provides, as a sampling, the following benefits for full-time employees:

  • Paid Holidays – 9 paid holidays

  • At the end of 6 month training period:

  • 2 Personal Days

  • Sick Leave – accrue 8 hours per month

  • Vacation Leave – earn 10 to 20 days depending on length of service

  • Funeral Leave – 3 days for immediate relative


  • Health – City of Valley Center

  • Dental – Delta Dental 

  • Vision – Surrency

  • Life Insurance:

  • KPERS – 150% of member's annual salary

  • Group Optional Life Insurance $5,000 to $200,000 may be purchased

  • Other Optional Insurances (Including Cancer and Injury)


  • Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) - vested after 5 years

  • Deferred Compensation – ICMA Deferred Comp; Security Benefit Deferred Comp; ING Deferred Comp- no employer contributions
