Garden City Community College

Established in 1919, Garden City Community College serves more than 48,000 residents in seven counties of rural southwest Kansas. It is a comprehensive community college which enrolls more than 2,300 credit students (1,260 FTE) on its main campus and at eight outreach locations each semester, and an additional 1,000 students in its non-credit Adult Learning Center programs at two additional off-campus locations. The 230-member full-time staff includes approximately 70 full-time faculty members in the academic transfer and technical programs. The college employs an additional 200 to 250 part-time staff, adjunct faculty, and work-study students on campus, at the Finney County Community Learning Center, and at the outreach locations.

GCCC funds instruction in five academic/transfer divisions and a technical division, as well as a wide variety of instructional support and student services activities. The college supports vigorous cultural, arts and multisport athletic programs and offers on-campus residential living for more than 300 students.

Garden City Community College offers lower division courses for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges or universities, occupational and technical courses for students who strive to gain competence in employment skills, and general education courses for all students to provide an awareness of the ideas and ideals of our diverse cultural heritage.

The college offers extensive continuing education and learning support services programs which include Business & Industry, continuing education, community service, adult education, library and comprehensive learning center. Technical offerings including programs in John Deere Agriculture Technology, Ammonia Refrigeration, Industrial Production Technology, Automotive Technology, Nursing, Police Science, Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Science, as well as programs in office occupations, agronomy, animal science, wood production technology and a variety of computer applications.

SALARY: Based on qualifications and experience. Paid monthly by the end of the month by direct deposit to your bank account.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time 12-month position.

SICK LEAVE: 12 days per year accrues to 90 days total. (Non-exempt employees are not eligible for paid sick leave until after successful completion of 60 days of continuous employment.)

VACATION: Earned at the rate of one day per month during years one through five of continuous employment, and 1.25 days per month thereafter. (Non-exempt employees are not eligible to use paid vacation until after successful completion of six months of continuous employment.)

RETIREMENT: Employees generally are covered by the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS). Employee contributes 4% of gross.

LIFE INSURANCE: $15,000 group term life insurance provided by Board, plus 1.5 times annual salary group term life insurance provided by KPERS.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Board provides up to $425.00 per month for a use-it-or-lose-it health insurance benefit through GCCC-sponsored health insurance plan.

BENEFITS:

Internal Revenue Code Section 125 Cafeteria Salary Reduction Plan allows employee to reduce compensation in amount necessary to purchase from nontaxable benefits contained in the plan and selected by the employee, including health (hospitalization) insurance, cancer insurance, short-term disability (salary protection) insurance, health savings account, medical expense reimbursement, dependent care reimbursement.

May, at employee’s discretion, take part in the matching, tax-sheltered plan with TIAA-CREF 403(b).

Free GCCC tuition for self, spouse, and dependents (children) who are 21 years of age or younger and are financially supported by the respective full time staff member.

Free pass for self and immediate family members to most college-sponsored activities.

Free use of on-campus wellness facility for employee.

EMPLOYMENT-AT-WILL

Employment for all non-faculty employees is at will. At-will employment means that neither the employee nor the college has entered into a contract regarding the duration of employment. At-will employees are free to terminate employment with GCCC at any time. Likewise, the college has the right to terminate his/her employment at any time.

No employee can enter into or offer a GCCC employment contract to another for a specified period of time or make any agreement contrary to this policy without written approval from the Board of Trustees.
