City of Belle Plaine
City of Belle Plaine

Belle Plaine was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1884.  Situated in a valley between the Arkansas and Ninnescah Rivers, Belle Plaine is just 20 miles south of Wichita.  The valley has a strong agricultural base with a wide variety of crops including wheat, making Sumner County the Wheat Capitol of Kansas.

Approximately 1600 people reside in Belle Plaine.  Belle Plaine is a wonderful place to raise a family because of the great schools and convenient hometown shopping.  Community Events during the year include the Tulip Time Festival in April, Miss Arkansas Valley Pageant, and the annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony.
