The City of Andover is a 10 square mile city in Western Butler County, Kansas. The city limits of Andover and Wichita are contiguous.  Thus Andover residents enjoy a small town lifestyle with the amenities of a large city right next door.

Andover is one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Kansas.  The population of the city has grown from 6,698 in 2000 to over 12,000 today.

The quality of life in Andover is second-to-none with a first-class school district, a 115,000 square foot full service YMCA facility (with an aquatic park), a private general hospital with a full range of services including an emergency room, and a Dillon’s Marketplace.

APPLICATION AND TESTING REQUIREMENTS

Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Andover. By submitting your application for any position with the City of Andover, you understand and agree to the following statements:

  • I attest that I will only provide true and complete information. No requested information will be concealed. If any information I provide is untrue, or if I conceal material information, I understand that this will constitute cause for the denial of employment or immediate dismissal.

  • If selected for employment with the City of Andover, I agree to participate in the appropriate examinations, determined by the position, which would include pre-employment drug screening, and could include physical examination, polygraph, psychological, and physical endurance examinations as well. These examinations will be paid for entirely by the City of Andover. Costs of transportation and time involved in completing the examinations are the responsibility of the applicant.

  • I authorize the City of Andover to contact references provided for employment reference checks.

Benefits:

The City of Andover provides the following benefits for full-time employees:

  • Vacation Leave - Employees accrue vacation leave based on their number of years of service.

  • Sick Leave - Employees accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month.

  • Injury Leave - employees are entitled to injury leave if the employee becomes physically disabled while performing on-the-job assignments. An employee injured on the job, except in the case of substantiated gross negligence on the part of the individual, is eligible to receive up to a total of forty (40) hours per injury of injury leave (not sick leave) with pay.

  • Holidays - The City provides 9 paid holidays.

  • Medical Insurance - Health insurance is provided thru Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. Employees of the City may be covered at 95% of the cost of single coverage or eighty-five (85) percent per month on family coverage. Dental Insurance is also provided thru Blue Cross Blue Shield on the same payment arrangement.

  • Retirement - The City provides the Kansas Police and Fire (KP&F) Retirement Program for commissioned Police and Firefighters. All other employees who have completed their training period (at least six months) are eligible to participate in the City’s Simplified Employee Pension Plan.  The employer’s contribution will be 6.0% of gross compensation. 

  • Deferred Compensation - Employees are not required to make contributions to a Public Employee Deferred Compensation (PEDC) Plan, but are allowed to make elective contributions.  In the event the employee makes elective contributions, the City will match those to a maximum of 3.0 percent of gross wages in addition to the 6%.
  • Tuition Reimbursement - The City of Andover provides up to $1,000/year for approved college education courses.

  • Wellness Program - A wellness program complete with regular health and wellness challenges and flu shots are available to employees. Additionally employees receive discounted memberships to the YMCA.

  • Performance Pay Increases - Employees have an opportunity for a merit increase based on annual performance reviews.

  • Life Insurance – Police and Firefighters receive life insurance in the amount of 150% of the employee’s annual salary through KP&F. All other employee’s life insurance is provided through a group plan.  The amount of coverage for the employee is $75,000, for the employee spouse is $10,000, and other dependants is $7,500.  Beginning March 1, 2018 these limits will change to $50,000; $2,000 and $2,000 respectively. Through February 28, 2018, the costs of this insurance are paid through the mandatory 1.0 percent payroll deduction from the employee’s gross, non overtime, wages. After March 1, 2018, the City will begin to pay a portion of the premium.

  • Optional Group Life Insurance - Optional group life insurance is available to employees.

  • Other Optional Insurance - Additional optional insurance is available to employees, including cancer, accident, and other insurance plans

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Various referral and counseling services are available for employees and their families.
